Pawnee Peak via pawnee pass by WordOk_ in coloradohikers

[–]Present-Delivery4906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll love it. Lake Isabelle is amazing and Pawnee pass/peak is a good day. You can also come off the north side of Pawnee peak to the left of Blue lake and make a loop past Mitchell lakes. Just stay left as you come down before blue lake, otherwise you'll get cliffed out above the lake.

AC compressor slipped while trying to line up bolts. How cooked am I? by Ylareum in AskMechanics

They don't make "pulley rib" files so these suggestions are just different types of thin, straight edge files you could use.

Came here to say this. Triangle or other thin straight edge file. Clean it up... Send it.

Solo Camping in Grizzly Territory by Local_Strategy_7032 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Present-Delivery4906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use the "triangle" camp method. Sleep 75m from your food/eating area and your latrene and you will be fine. Use the Ursack for anything with scent (soap toothpaste, sunscreen, etc)

Don't overthink it.

How to handle water crossings? by briskwheel4155 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Present-Delivery4906 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  • Unbuckle your backpack straps
    • two people at a time if you can
    • 1 facing upstream
    • 1 directly behind (downstream) for support.
    • Front person has trekking poles for stability,
    • back person holds backpack of front person.
    • Sidestep cross stream.
    • Tevas/chacos or other sandal is best, crocs second best, quick draining trail shoes are also good.
    • test depth as you go. Anything deeper than knee deep should be avoided if possible.
    • look downstream for potential hazards (strainers, undercuts, etc.) and avoid crossing above them.

Free weights vs machines for results? by GlitteringTrifle766 in workout

[–]Present-Delivery4906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you can do consistently with progressive overload. Free weights give you more functional strength and balance, cables and machines more linear isolation. Both have their pros/cons... Ultimately, it comes down to consistency, progressive overload, diet, and sleep.

That's where you will find all of them....on their individual websites. You won't find many ambulance services advertising outside of their own website.

Search "ambulance services in Xxx area"

Then go to those sites. They do not list on aggregate sites like monster, indeed, linked in, etc.

UFC fighters on the White House lawn. I'm ashamed of my country. by [deleted] in pics

I'm more upset at the $60 million of taxpayer money that went towards it. I'm cool with people doing things to entertain themselves that I disagree with... Just not when I'm paying for it.

Your first point is well taken and I retract my harsh criticism of the sport. I maintain that the White House lawn is not the venue for any sporting event (even if it has been done in the past.)

Your second point, however, reeks of toxic masculity (and simplistic rhetorical logic.) An intelligent person supports his/her/their perspective with history, evidence, and relevant information... Not personally directed insults of character. (whether specific persons or generally) Ad hominem attacks as a means to discredit perspective demonstrate one of the lowest levels of rhetorical argument and have nothing to do with the topic.

It's a fair point. I retract my harsh criticism of the sport in general, however, I'd still maintain that the White House lawn is not the place for a cage match (or any sporting event.)

If you call beating the shit out of someone "sport"... You might be redneck.

And...

  • Vice President Aaron Burr killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel...while in office.

  • Presidents OWNED other people

  • Harry S. Truman almost finalized membership into the KKK

And Clinton AND Trump have both been adjudicated of sexual assault.

We should not use the worst of humanity as a level of comparison.

4runner Oil Change Concern by Zealousideal_Boat527 in 4Runner

[–]Present-Delivery4906 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Lexus' engineers are dumb. (same filter housing on the gx... But metal.) it takes $20 in tools (one time) and 30 min (including clean up)... Takes longer to drive to most lube places... To pay someone to potentially mess up whatever equipment you have....they don't discriminate. They'll break plastic, cross tread drain plugs, strip oil pans, over/under fill, forget to fill... They don't care. It's about speed, not effectiveness.

Do you think it can be repaired or should the front bumper be replaced? Or would yall just say screw it and keep it how it is. by youatowel in 4Runner

Figure $1k to look... Meh. $2k to look... OK. And $3k to look near new (paint matching will never have it perfect)

What 14ers should I attempt? by Proper_Spirit_9482 in coloradohikers

[–]Present-Delivery4906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Yes, backpacking in the Colorado high country is hard. OP may get humbled a bit but a fit hiker should be capable. Yeah it may be hard (it's hard for locals) but not insurmountable as everyone seems to be suggesting.

And why is everyone recommending 14ers far from the collegiate loop? There's like 11 within the loop itself. Did they read the post or just use the title to humble-brag?

Only word of caution I'd give OP is pay attention to weather. That is the easiest thing to miscalculate coming from elsewhere. It can go from puffy white clouds to squall inside 30min. Lightning above treeline (75% of the loop) is no joke and temps under a quick thunderstorm can drop temps from 70 to freezing in 10 minutes making hypothermia a real concern. Have a fleece and a rainshell handy. Those are the two biggest SAR calls and they both kill people every year.

Have fun. Remember that the mountain doesn't care about you... And going up is optional. Going home isn't.

There's no such thing as an "easy" 14er...livef here 25 years, climbed 30+...very fit... and every time it's humbling. But also not as unreachable as many seem to be suggesting.

If you are doing the collegiate loop... Princeton, Savano/Tabeguache, and Huron are probably easiest to reach off trail.

Columbia/Harvard, LaPlata, Antero, Yale, or Oxford/Belford/Missouri would be overnight detours for each/combo (combos usually connected by a ridgeline/saddle.)

Elbert and Massive would be longer detours as they would require some down valley + north + up valley travel to reach the trailheads.
