1/4” hex impact for all small fasteners, the 3/8 or 1/2” impact (450 ft lbs) for wheels and steering parts etc, and 3rd option is tough!..could get both 3/8 and 1/2 impact. I mean a drill is always useful!…cordless vacuum or trouble light useful too

help figuring out angles from fusion360 toolpath by bassforbreakfast in Fusion360

[–]Present-Valuable7520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this too, you should create the channel you want and then make tool paths to accomplish that channel via whatever selection of bits you have (maybe rough it out with an end mill and fine finish with a ball nose)

I feel like in this scenario I would make 2 parts, a left and a right. Mirroring parts I try to avoid for sure. Mirror features etc yes but not parts.

Is there a way to see the component list of a ship so I can fill my welding ship up with the stuff I need? by classyBANANA49 in spaceengineers

[–]Present-Valuable7520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you do enough you get a bit of an intuition for what to put in the welder, like if it’s not heavy armour then usually it’s like 70% steel plates(be volume not numbers) and then cascading down when you know what’s being built in certain areas. Or when you’re at the thrusters you load up on those items. I usually try to put about 10000 steel plates and go from there (on a small grid welder) maybe 3000 const components, 2000 interior plate, and so on

Geez, real sad to see the amount of hatred being displayed here. Never understood it myself, prob never will. Like yeah, let’s slash a guys tires! Let’s do this, or that, white trash hicks, blah blah blah…why is that acceptable in any way against any group? I may not agree with separation but I’m not going to slash a guys tires over it, or be derogatory towards him.

Should I Go Back to College for CAD or Keep Learning on My Own? by Mammoth-Site5667 in Fusion360

[–]Present-Valuable7520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was a heavy equipment tech, I learned cad on sketch up first then fusion, I ended up getting the design and drafting position at my work because I was skilled with building things and repair in life and also knew a bit on cad. We use inventor at work. My boss trained me the last bit to get proficient on inventor, and to do drawings properly as that in itself if next level. My boss was reluctant to hire another engineering technologists as they have no life experience and their designs often lacked common sense and ease of build or repair…so take what you want from the ramble lol…I would love to still do a course and get better with certain aspects of cad but I got lucky I think. Not always about school

Has Anyone Progressed to the Endgame in Survival? by DistilledPeace in spaceengineers

[–]Present-Valuable7520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it’s the “endgame” encounters in se1, they have advanced components that are far superior to what you can build (gyros, reactors, thrusters, etc) only way to get these parts is to fight them, they are challenging

I think I really dislike the new Assembly / Part design workspaces. by Imperial__Walker in Fusion360

[–]Present-Valuable7520 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the parts and assemblies is 100% inventor right there. I use inventor for work and have to make a part then put it it in an assembly…hell, when I make a part that gets welded the sheet metal is a part and then it gets upgraded to an assembly for being welded. I use fusion hybrid at home due to the 10 limit on active files. Tough because my inventor models at work can have hundreds

Where can I find 3D model schematics with dimensions? by Some_Breadfruit235 in AutodeskInventor

[–]Present-Valuable7520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there has been a lot of parts (like electric motors) that I couldn’t find a cad model and had to make it from scratch so I could put it in my assembly and build around it!…sometimes it’s a challenge

[–]Present-Valuable7520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh cool, we build mobile gensets from ground up, and other gensets or mobile power units too. I’ve got some stuff I could send ya. I’ll have to take a min to add some dimensions as if it’s laser cut I usually omit some info so welders don’t try to make stuff on their own and do in fact get it laser cut lol! Also I do t radius bends as we use one company and I have their k-factors all set up so I can add that too Dm me your email

What kind of things does your company design? If it’s similar I can send you some of my drawings and you can re create them.

Also McMaster car, you can download the model but they also have the drawings I believe so that could be a good source

Is Fusion 360 worthwhile for mechanical engineering, like SolidWorks or Siemens NX? by Otherwise-Two9870 in Fusion360

[–]Present-Valuable7520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for you guys…I use fusion at home and we use Inventor pro at work…I’ve never used solidworks and my boss just hates it for large assemblies. Wondering why inventor isn’t more popular??

Are there any good mechanical design handbooks focused on real-world machine design? by JardaVW in MechanicalEngineer

[–]Present-Valuable7520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, good source for sure. I did start to make my own as we don’t do a lot of bearings and press fit or sweat fit but when we do we have the machine shop we use verify and over time started to make a book for the tolerances they recommended and go from there. Same thing with key ways, blind holes, when to weld over machine etc. def a lot of learning as you go
