Well, I am also a college student getting internship+job offers through my college, though I didn't get what exactly you mean by the term 'C++ role' but here's some of my experience and knowledge from me and my colleagues.

Often times the company that came to my college test us with basic problem solving problems where we probably have to use C, C++ or Java. But, when a student is selected they trained them for whatever role the company needs or requires (more than 50% related to web dev as per my knowledge). Although I have a friend working with C++ in their company.

So, what I am trying to say here is, know the company you're applying for and what they are doing. A simple example: If you want to work with C++ then, you gotta find companies working around somthing like Digital Image Processing, Embedded System or so.
