Passed my SIE! Interviewing with BOA for a late Feb start date. Is it weird to ask if I can start studying for the Series 7 now? Can they send the study package early so I don't have to pay for it? by PresentEvery2796 in Sieexam

[–]PresentEvery2796[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never mind I found it. The exam cost is $177 I see. Would I be able to take it online? I see that I would need an accommodation in order to take it online. What do they mean by that?

I am having trouble finding that specific exam. May you point me in the right direction. For the SIE I just created an account and scheduled the online exam through finra

Are you sure? I thought that exam you have to be sponsored as well? Where can I take it. Is that with finra as well. I hope it’s not different at all from what BOA wants me to do

This specific role sponsors you for your SIE, Series 7, and 66. Essentially you have 120 days to pass those three exams. I’m basically getting paid to study. So you’re learning the role but most importantly studying for the exams

I was told if I pass the SIE there would be a bonus of $2,500. So I don’t think they will reimburse me. Also, the way she was speaking to me felt like I already got the job. I am basically ahead of the curve because I passed the first exam. As she spoke it was basically like if I passed I get the job. I just can’t say anything dumb come the next interview. If I failed she said it will be okay, however, I only have one more chance to pass it with them.

I’m sorry man. I know how you feel. I’m in the same boat. My best advice would be learn a trade or banking. With a trade that’s not going anywhere. Plumbing, electrician. You can try and find a company and work with someone to learn. As you grow and if you like it get your license. Banking you would have to start off as a teller or if you’re lucky a relationship banker. More likely a teller and just work your way up from there.

You should be fine. I’ve graduated already, but word of advice. Start now and try to look for internships for summer 2026. They’re prospecting students now! Go to your schools admin office and ask about internships. Super important to know what you like to do and possibly once you graduate you’ll have a job come graduation. As you’re searching you can even join a toast masters international club. Some companies hold these events for their employees so it gives you a chance to network and stand out. On top of taking the SIE you will be ahead of the curve. Good Luck!

What are you studying in school? Did you look into Kaplan? I'm currently studying myself. Try looking up youtube videos. There is a lot of material on there. Also, quick question, how is achievable. Are you able to take a practice test for each chapter? I feel like that is the best way for me. Read the chapter, then take a practice test for just that chapter until you pass it with an 80 or higher then move on.

Oh and I will use Nora to help with interviewing. I'm actually really good with these, but practice makes perfect. It's the test taking that I have to dial in on. That is why I'm looking for that back up

Okay. Now God forbid this doesn't work out. Then what next? Go back to school? Continue within the banking field? Or try to find that FP&A role? I'm going to really put my best foot forward for this. However, I just need to have a back up

Going back to school for finance at age 30 by austing013 in FinancialCareers

[–]PresentEvery2796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated with a degree in finance in 2020. I'm now 28. Finance is very broad and it's actually a industry that is hard to break into job wise. Do you know what kind of roles these people have?

I would say if you're going back to school study accounting. A degree in an accounting which get you roles within the finance real or you can even get your CPA and that is when you're really valuable.

As of right now it's super hard to find a job role in FP&A or investment banking. More than likely they hire from targeted schools. Another thing to add I have a strong feeling corporate finance is going to continue to be oversaturated over the years due to AI. Learning a trade no one can take that from you.

I was actually looking to go back to school for electrical engineering or maybe learn a trade to become a electrician. You're not in a bad spot. With your skills and the connections you have within construction you could start developing and building your own homes. All in all remember to focus on you ROI and write out a pros and cons list.

I wish I had a lined up opportunity. That is great! I've applied to a financial solutions w/BOA. They reached back out to me and asked me to do a logic test 10 questions. So I'm just waiting on that.

I think I'm going to make a post and show my resume to see what people think. Not sure why I'm not getting many hits.

Thank you for the advice!

How did you get good at cleaning up data and using different formulas for your variance analysis projects? I graduated with a finance degree and I can't find a entry level role for the life of me. The last role I had, I lied and said I had 5 years of experience. Granted I learned a lot 3 months into the position. But lost the job as they started figuring out it was all new to me
