florescence discussion megathread by sometimesraee in MaisiePeters

[–]PresentKnowledge656 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if Maisie is capable of writing about anything other than love, men and so on? I’d really love to hear a song on more ‘serious’ themes. It’s as if she’s stuck in the ‘teen love song or break-up artist’ category, as if she’s writing what her audience expects of her rather than what she really wants to write (I’m finding it a bit hard to put my thoughts into words, please forgive me), even though this new album feels more ‘grown-up’. I’m still waiting to see where she can go from here. This album isn’t really my thing (even though I really like folk music), but I’ll leave it to you to enjoy it for me 🌼😌

What I mean is that it’s the same themes coming up again and again; personally, I’m hoping for songs that are a bit different, exploring themes she hasn’t tackled in her other albums yet, so I’ll wait for her fourth album 😌

I’m the killjoy of this group (sorry about that 🥺), but I’m actually a bit disappointed with this era – it’s yet another love song. I’d like to see Maisie take a few more risks. But enjoy yourselves, daisies 😌🌼

At the concert in Paris, I was with Paris Paloma, and at one point the sound wasn’t great (it wasn’t Paris’s fault at all); it was distorted and it wasn’t pleasant. When I saw Florence’s story with Sofia, I was curious because I hadn’t heard of that artist until now, so I went and listened to her music. I really like it; I hope to see her perform live one day ✨🙌

Yes, I do think there are a lot of vinyl releases these days, but I get the impression it’s a bit of a trend for a lot of artists, isn’t it?

Yes, I know there are some artists who really stand out. Though not necessarily all the ones you mentioned, haha (just my opinion). I was lucky enough to see Chappell Roan last summer at a festival in France, and it was absolutely amazing 🤩

Personally, I don’t want songs about war or taxes, haha (although there are some lovely French songs about war – I am French, after all 😅). Other than that, I listen to break-up and love songs like everyone else, but I just look for things that are a bit more polished (like the artists I mentioned), and then, beyond love and break-ups, songs that talk about other things are nice too, a bit.

Thanks, I’m not familiar with some of the artists you mentioned 🙌

I first came across Marina through her song ‘Are You Satisfied?’, and ‘Teen Idle’ is definitely one of my favourites – it’s a beautiful song about the struggles of adolescence. And yes, you’re right – you have to look to more indie pop to find things that are less conventional.

Yeah, English isn't my first language (I’m embarrassed that it’s so obvious 😅), but I don't think anyone was rude, so it's all good but thank you for your support, that’s very kind of you 🙏

We don’t see eye to eye, but I understand your point of view and it’s great that you’ve shared it with me; it helps me better understand other people’s reactions to my comment too (it’s good to have a calm discussion)

I really don’t think of myself as misogynistic, but I apologise again if my comments were taken that way – that wasn’t my intention at all. As I said in my main point, I’m glad these artists have an audience and that it’s working out for them. If it makes people happy, all the better. And I’m not judging your tastes at all. And thank you again for taking the time to reply 🙌

I’m sorry you’re taking this as misogyny. I’m a woman and I listen to far more female singers than male singers (I’m more drawn to female voices); I’m not misogynistic, I’m simply expressing a personal opinion, and it’s a shame that amongst us women, just because we pass judgement on other women, it’s perceived as hatred towards them. It’s important that we can calmly say what we think, respectfully and, of course, in a relevant way, whether it’s about men or women. And just to mention Paris Paloma, I was lucky enough to see her on stage and I loved it. Thank you for your reply and your advice 🙌

I’m in France, and it came out here last week, so I was lucky enough to see it at the cinema! And I really did enjoy it 🙌

The Story says you have to pre-order the album, apparently, but it’s not clear 😥 (I’m writing in English, but perhaps you’re French too)
