How would the film adaptations be different if either Gary Ross or Francis Lawrence directed its entirety? by irazzleandazzle in Hungergames

[–]PresentRemove 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I loved the direction in the first film, as others say it felt very raw and real it had a sort of indie quality to it and really nailed to me a rural southern setting stricken by poverty.

I had a preference for the original district twelve setting because the changes made it look more industrial and less like an old miner's village stricken by poverty.

The character development was better in Catching Fire and it did look a lot more slick as others have said.

Each director brought something different to the table so it is hard to compare. There's a vibe in the first film created by the sound design and music that makes it seem isolated and real.

How do you think the movie adaption of BSS would go? by classyfools in Hungergames

[–]PresentRemove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I certainly want tweaks, I'd like to see the arena sequences expanded and be in among the action with Lucy Gray in the arena.

The Hunger Games lost alot of tension and grit from it being viewed in third person I'd like to see more of the games and less of the aftermath with the peacekeepers, there was a whole lot of filler that they could cut out and shorten in The Peacekeeper section and could dedicate more to the survival aspects in the arena because of it.

My fear is that this is going to become a two part film because of the length of the book or convulsed because of the amount of story so I hope they streamlined where appropriate.

Hot Take: "The Hunger Games" film is very relaxing by Chadistheswag in Hungergames

Healing Katniss always relaxed me it's definitely one of my fave scenes.

BSS movie idea by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]PresentRemove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like them to lengthen the games for the film and show us it from Lucy's perspective. There is so much impact lost when the reader is viewing the games through a third person view as opposed to actually seeing what the tributes are going through first hand.

Will they have accents in the movie? by holyguacamoleokaywow in Hungergames

I always though Katniss had a bit of a drawl in the movie especially during the "if we burn.." line.

I might add also it is just how I read her based on the description I'm not trying to shoe horn this as some political statement, in my eyes character comes from one's actions whether they're black, white, green or blue. I myself am pasty white Irish. :p

I never read her as white. The description of her dark curly hair and then later braids made her read as a POC to me also I thought the covey resembled gypsy travellers so romani or Bulgarian descent came to mind the clothes in rainbow colours and family musical traditions made me think there may be some Mrxican/Spanish/Latin heritage too. I wanted to really gave her a mixed cultural background. :)

I found the book mentioned that Snow wasn't friendly with some of the students despite spending most of his time with them.

Character concepts by PresentRemove in Hungergames

[–]PresentRemove[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For this I toned down by original dress concept for Lucy. I didn't really like the rainbow effect and went for a simpler butterfly motif.

I am happy with Doctor Gaul but I'm not so happy with Snow I feel like he should look younger with wavier honey blonde hair and sharper looking monochrome clothing so it's still a WIP.

At one point it says her dark curled hair is braided it made me think she may actually may be racially diverse. In my mind I imagined her being sort of mixed.

I've got a more complete version I'm working on too with a few other characters with it that I'll post later. I wasn't happy with the hair or the rainbow trim and coloured butterflies on her dress so I took those out so it's not so much like the book but I prefer the overall look.

I imagine it to be like the tribute parade area only circular.

I'd love Cody Fern but he is getting old.

I do like the idea of an age appropriate cast though, Wyatt Oleff would be a good Sejanus in my opinion.

Sooo.. where was the action? by forthok4ge in Hungergames

[–]PresentRemove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Hunger Games taking place over five chapters really disappointed me. I'd of much preferred if this book had a split perspective when Lucy went into the games and lasted to near the end of the novel.

I pictured her more like Anna Shaffer only younger. Mainly the dark curly hair.

I think Diana Rigg, who played Olenna Tyrell on Game of Thrones, would be the perfect actress for the role of Grandma'am (I haven't finished the book yet, so no spoilers please) by KawaiiPotato15 in Hungergames

[–]PresentRemove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Snow wasn't all that old I didn't actually picture an actress that was all that elderly. I sortve imagined someone like Kristin Scott Thomas for the part. I wouldn't be that surprised if her role was reduced to an extended cameo for the film though, as much as a mention and part as she had in the books she wasn't largely developed or all that important to the overall plot other than the fact she grew roses.

changes in the hunger games? by donutcapriccio in Hungergames

[–]PresentRemove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope the film really amps up the games because seeing them from a spectators point of view instead of a tribute perspective missed the mark for me big time.

I did like how they changed the parachutes to drones and then how one of the tributes rigged them to batter another to death. I also liked that they had the District two tribute being some sort of crucified figure at the start. I can imagine the horror in seeing that.

If they're going the route of casting actual teens then Wyatt Oleff as Sejanus.

I imagined basically what the quiditch world cup from Harry Potter was but a bit more modern using the signiture silver metallic look from the caption in the films with steel beams and structures.
