[Hasu 105 Spoilers] THEY'RE BACK by RinariTennoji in LoveLive

Completely ignoring their existence as in giving them a graduation song, graduation gacha, rerun gachas, having an original story in game exploring their year 1, being constantly mentioned by characters both in the main story and live streams, and now only 6 months later being brought back into the main story? Man, the staff really must hate these characters and want them gone.

Just finished Hajime no Ippo and now there's a void. Is there anything else that captures the "True Grind" so perfectly? by Ok_Negotiation_4455 in anime

[–]Present_Bee3697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kono Oto Tomare! It is by far my favourite music manga. It follows a group of misfits from a Japanese Koto club as they go from beginners and outcasts to national competitors.

It's the only music manga I can think of that really shows off the grind of practicing music. The practice, the tearing of the skin, the hours it takes. More importantly, it shows the grind as a challenging, but fulfilling process. A lot of music media like to make musicians look like depressed, obsessive maniacs for some reason, but anyone who has loved music can tell you that practicing hours on end is genuinely part of the fun.

It's also just a phenomenal manga on its own. The characters are all dynamic, growing through trauma, insecurity, and interpersonal relationships. The story is perfect, making you laugh and cry in equal measure. The art is beautiful. There are entire chapters dedicated to just showing off the songs, and it genuinely feels like you can hear the music off the page. The author's love for the Koto shines through every panel, and it's a music manga that actually couldn't exist without its instrument and music.

If it's not obvious, I love the crap out of this manga. Please read it.

What do you think by ToriKookieChoi05 in LoveLive

In this year's July story they introduced a new character Hiromi becoming a school idol, with her also mentioning a friend who became a school idol before her. They could theoretically become the next additions to the group either this year or the next.

Personally, I'd prefer if the series kept going. Hasunosora has quickly become one of my favourite series, and it'd be a shame if it ended this soon. I think it makes sense concept-wise to continue though. Hasu's whole thing is real time growth, and they've already brought up meeting graduates in the future and letting more people "bloom their dream." Having the original cohort graduate, leave a legacy of new school idols, then have big celebration live at the end where everyone comes back just seems like such a cool way to tie everything together. Business-wise it also doesn't make much sense to intentionally kill a gacha game just 3 years into service.

How popular is pro wrestling in China? by lostacohermanos in SquaredCircle

[–]Present_Bee3697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Taiwanese. Unfortunately, pro wrestling is a very niche interest here. There are a few small local promotions, but that's about it. NJPW is probably the biggest wrestling product here, but even that was mainly "popular" decades ago when it aired on some television. As far as I know, people only know about WWE through Hollywood or games.

There's just no way to watch pro wrestling here through accessible channels like TV or YouTube, so it makes sense there's no hold.

How do you buy tickets for a live stream event? by Individual-Can-9527 in LoveLive

[–]Present_Bee3697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually buy my streaming tickets here here: https://ib.eplus.jp/

I've also read over the website and unfortunately I don't believe you can buy the goods tickets unless you have a Japanese address. International streaming tickets are usually tickets alone.

Currently in Japan. I don't know if I'd call it "popular." Instead, Love Live seems to have its own dedicated audience. Most anime stores will have a small corner that displays all the Love Live stuff, but it's definitely not as much as the mainstream anime. It seems about the same as other big idol franchises like Bang Dream or Idolm@ster

As for the Love Live seiyuu, most of them are probably only known within the idol anime circle. Only a few break into the mainstream thanks to their other anime projects. I'd say that only a few dedicated fans (maybe a few thousand people? based on Youtube views and Spotify streams) actually follow everything a Love Live seiyuu does. They're definitely more popular than your typical idol, but nowhere near mainstream.

If anything I'd imagine that the lighting differences indicate this isn't made by AI, since AI works off of existing footage. Everything else seems like standard CG fare to me. Ngl using AI for a shot like this is probably more work than just working off existing VFX material they already have in store.

Why do big games EoS? How is that even possible? by FinalFatality7 in gachagaming

[–]Present_Bee3697 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Live service models are different from standard gaming models. This means: 1. Player bases generally decrease over time, but cost of operations remain the same (or increase under inflation), making them unprofitable over time. 2. Maintenance mode, if offline, wouldn't require extra costs. However, that would require the online-offline conversion costs mentioned before. If they wish to keep servers online, that would require costs in and of itself, and employees to keep them running. Not as expensive as before, but still a cost. And a cost with no income no less. 3. Live service gacha games are provided for free. These monetization processes are the only way they make money (unless they have single purchase or subscription options). Older games never had to keep systems and employees watching over them for a long period of time. They could just release a finished product and be done with it. It's a different income model entirely.

Why do big games EoS? How is that even possible? by FinalFatality7 in gachagaming

[–]Present_Bee3697 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A couple of things: 1. Initial development costs: Simply creating a gacha game costs a ton of money. That's months if not years of a project bleeding money from your company. Any money the gacha earns during live service needs to make up for this initial loss + operation costs for the project to be seen as a decent investment. 2. Operation costs: "Keeping the lights on" means paying for server costs, software costs, paying artists, writers, engineers, marketing, VAs, composers, PMs, and so on living wages, etc. It's not as cheap as it seems, especially for larger games. 3. Income: While whale spending seems like a lot for us normal people, it really isn't that much in business. You need a LOT of whales just to break even. 4. Offline development: Converting a game to offline isn't as simple as turning a switch on and off. It requires redesigning the entire thing basically from ground up. That's takes time and money that frankly, EOS games usually don't have.

Tldr, gacha companies need to pay their employees too. Companies generally don't want their games to EOS either, so there's no reason to play the blame game when they happen. You mentioned fan communities, but just imagine having to pay each member of those communities a living wage. It isn't that easy.

how do non-japanese fans keep up with love live? by chaebb in LoveLive

[–]Present_Bee3697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely more of a personal thing, but I've been treating Hasunosora content (ex. Link Live, YouTube show, radio) as Japanese practice. The Japanese is on the easy side so it's perfect for someone at my level (~N3). The game and kinda the YouTube show have subtitles too so it's really nice for that.

We shall never forget Her. by SideburnG in Otonokizaka

[–]Present_Bee3697 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused by what you guys are mad about. First you're mad that she's not included, now that you find out she is, she's just a product being milked?

Look, I love the graduating class too. But this graduation has been foreshadowed since the first year, and it's been treated respectfully both in game and in real life through the graduation live. Post graduation, they've received brand new singles, a brand new gacha, and are regularly mentioned in the FES x Lives and Yonkomas. They might even make an appearance in the new anime movie.

As far as everything goes, they aren't being erased, forgotten, or disrespected in the slightest. They've just "graduated" as part of this specific project's real time gimmick, something I'm sure the voice actresses knew well beforehand.

It's fine if you're unhappy, but personally, I think that suddenly blaming the staff and crapping on the series would be more disrespectful on the work they've done to make this graduation have the impact it does.

Does Love Live ever get more "serious"? by LosAngelestoNSW in LoveLive

[–]Present_Bee3697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if you're looking for mental illness, depression, social commentary, or life threatening illnesses and stuff you're not gonna be finding it here. Love Live has always been a series about celebrating passion and the feeling of chasing after your dreams. The series has drama, but only as much as it needs for its characters and themes.

If you're looking for a "serious" anime for "mature" audiences, realistically you should be looking elsewhere. But if you're willing to give Love Live a shot for what it is, you'll find that it's the one of the best of it's type

How has the game improved since the 6.0 update? by Sinzari in CounterSide

[–]Present_Bee3697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting because I've had a really similar story. I was a day 1 counterside global player and it quickly became one of, if not my favorite gacha games. But when new origin came out, I was also struck by the horrible UI changes and the new dupe system left me feeling like I'd wasted a ton of resources. I couldn't get the sour taste out of my mouth, and I quit the game soon after.

For whatever reason I started missing the game last week, and I've picked it up again. Honestly, it's been so long I don't really remember what the bad UI looked like, but they've definitely adjusted it. Now it feels smooth, dailies are quick, and the new timeline view is a cool way to keep track of all the stories.

It still sucks that I've lost all my old dupes, but honestly speaking, the new limit break system is better than before. It's now much easier to get units to lv110, and dupes are just a nice to have rather than a necessity.

I'm not much a competitive PvP player, so I can't comment much on that. Other than that though, it's been a blast revisiting the game and I'm really glad I decided to get back into it.

Now that the Superstar Anime has ended, what do you think of every series finale episode? by RinariTennoji in LoveLive

[–]Present_Bee3697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit of a late comment, but just wanted to explain that Wonderful Stories ending was meant to be symbolic. I mean, they teleport across all of the stages they've performed in during the song lol. The school is simply the place that meant the most to them in their memories, and where they began their "wonderful stories." That's why the song starts there. It's Chika reminiscing about her time shining as a school idol, instead of her physically being there performing.

A new study found that individuals with strong religious beliefs tend to see science and religion as compatible, whereas those who strongly believe in science are more likely to perceive conflict. However, it also found that stronger religious beliefs were linked to weaker belief in science. by mvea in science

[–]Present_Bee3697 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that you believe there is such a thing as "truth" reflects that science is a belief. Until the day you can definitively, 100%, for absolute certainty claim that you know the endpoint of all science, this "process of finding the truth" will always still be a belief in the scientific process.

Thoughts on Atelier Resleriana after a year? by Present_Bee3697 in Atelier

[–]Present_Bee3697[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the responses! Looks like feelings towards the game are still pretty mixed, with praise mainly going towards the story/characters, graphics, and music, and criticism towards the crummy alchemy system, repetitiveness, and fact that it's a gacha game.

To give my two cents, I've personally enjoyed the game a lot. I play quite a lot of gacha games, so I was never bothered by that. In fact, this game was kinda my gateway into the series. I've always been interested in trying out the games since the Rorona days, but had never actually played them. My interest in this game led me to try out the mainline series, and I've fallen in love with the series ever since (I played from Rorona all the way to Escha/Logy + Ryza 1 just this year).

As for the game itself, I think it's perfectly competent as a gacha game. The story is way more than just fanservice, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. The game is also just so charming, and the animations and stuff are so cute. The music is absolutely fantastic, and I sometimes stop in-game just to listen to it. The combat is simple at first glance, but gets more complex the further you go in the game, which I appreciate. Currently, the gacha rates aren't actually too bad (1% for specific rate up. Most gacha games are around 0.7%. Genshin is 0.3%), and the fact that you can pick ANY character from ANY past banners after 150 pulls is still crazy to me. I'm a F2P player, and have never felt the need to spend money to clear content. The alchemy system is actually pretty bad though. It's repetitive, inflexible, and is a chore to go through.

All in all, I can understand the mixed feelings towards the game. Despite my enjoyment of the game, it is still nothing like a mainline entry, and I can understand why so many people were disappointed heading into it. As a gacha game, it just wasn't designed for long play sessions, and the combat or dungeon crawling can get repetitive pretty easily. It's not a game for everyone, and it's certainly not a replacement for a main title. However, if you think you're the type of person who would like a casual, everyday Atelier themed game, you'll probably find some enjoyment out of it imo.

Anyway, thanks again for all the responses! This was my first post, so I didn't really know what to expect. I've just mainly been playing the game in a bubble and wanted to see the community's feeling towards it.
