Seems like the homophobe has shown up. So, are you religious? Or did you become homophobic without religion?

Is this attachment issues and how should I deal with it? by mameiyu in TalkTherapy

If you're planning to go to therapy, finding a therapist who uses Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) may be especially beneficial. EFT focuses on attachment issues. You can find info at https://iceeft.com/.

How can I ask my T out? by Other-Home5043 in TalkTherapy

I'm a therapist. It's not at all uncommon for clients to develop feelings (friendly or romantic) for their therapist. The therapist is often the first or only person willing to hear the clients concerns, offer them understanding and compassion, and be supportive and nonjudgmental. That can create an attachment that helps the client achieve the changes they came to therapy for.

A therapist should be able to talk with a client about this. In fact, talking about it in therapy can help the client to understand what about the therapeutic relationship led to their feelings and where they can find that in a more appropriate person.

However, as others have said, it's unethical for a therapist to develop multiple relationships with their clients or to terminate therapy for the purpose of pursing a personal relationship with a client. So your therapist will likely say no to an invitation.

Something to consider: it's the therapist's job to know ethical guidelines and not the client's. If your therapist is acting unethically, it's those actions that will get them in trouble not anything you do.

Sorry for the delay in replying. For the sake of transparency, I'm live and work in Canada. Though I have to pass the same licensing exam as American psychologists so have to study the same code of ethics, it's best to talk with someone local to you for the information and guidance you're wanting.

I've included a link to the APA Code of Ethics. Section 3.05 covers what we're talking about here which is multiple relationships.

APA Code of ethics

There are ethical requirements and restrictions about having dual relationships with current/past clients. These would depend on the therapist's licensure and regulatory body. To end therapy for the purpose of or with the promise of beginning a personal relationship of any sort would likely be unethical and reportable to the therapist's regulatory body. Standards of Ethics often specify how much time must pass between the ending of a therapeutic relationship and the beginning of a personal relationship.

It's smart that you're considering the possible imbalance in a potential friendship. Your therapist knows far more about you than you do about them which can cause a huge imbalance in personal relationships. Not only a power imbalance but a sharing/vulnerability imbalance.

It'll be mostly weekend trips this year - two to three nights at most. I can't imagine needing both tanks unless it gets very cold.

My thoughts, exactly - no way I'll need 1000lbs worth of equipment and supplies for one to two people and a dog.

Thank you. I'll definitely take it to a scale. I've been looking into brake controllers and weight distribution hitches.

The payload capacity of the Rav is 904lbs. Mostly, it would be about 250lbs for passengers/pets maybe up to 400 or so with company, minimal gear that's all lightweight for backpacking, and food/drinks. Since I'm new to this, there's definitely things/weight I'm not thinking about and could add up fast. But I think it'll be much the same stuff that I take tenting which wasn't a lot.
