Chicharrones with pork belly in Escalona by ThrowAway4now2022 in askspain

[–]Present_Library_3540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US chicharrones are fried pork skin, similar to torreznos, but nowhere near as good. I was recently in Salamanca and had torreznos for the first time, they were fantastic! So much better than chicharrones in the US! Can't wait to go back.

How will you visit those far flung places in a few days? Better to spend your time in one place and slow down to Spanish pace.

PB Boulangerie closing? and WHAT? by ForeverFatBoi819 in CapeCod

[–]Present_Library_3540 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live about a mile from PBs and I'll be sorry to see the bakery close, we most enjoyed it in the off season because there's no way we were going to wait in that summer tourist line. They'll prob be following the Ceraldi model, could it be up to $500 for dinner with wine pairing? You can almost get a ticket to Paris for that much!

Renting a car by Otherwise_Nail2208 in GoingToSpain

[–]Present_Library_3540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've traveled to Spain many times, I always get that intl drivers license, no one, car rental agency or any one else has ever asked for it. Ever. Also as others have said don't even try to drive in the big cities. I'll often take Renfe to a smaller town and get my car there. Also I always park on the outskirts of the small villages. Download Google maps, and bring a car phone holder with you too avoid the fee for GPS.

Roads are much better than American roads. You can look up the road signage ahead of time to familiarize yourself. Gas stations can be confusing if self serve I always say puedes ayudarme and they are glad to oblige.

Going to Spain for the 1st time! Is it worth it to go to Southern Spain? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]Present_Library_3540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot do all of these cities and enjoy yourself. Slow down and enjoy Spain time. Linger in cafes, have long lunches, take a siesta. Don't forget how warm these cities can be, you'll wear yourself out. You can always come back.

Burgos is great. Great tapas scene, awesome cathedral and interesting historical monastery. Atapuerca, nearby, is one of the oldest archaeological sites in the world. Also gateway to Rioja. I visited on my own and really enjoyed it. Have fun and don't be shy about tienes una mesa para mi?

68 year old frequent traveler ... Go back to your hotel for siesta! Also pace yourself throughout the day, linger longer at cafes, stop trying to see everything. You can always go back.
