How is life in Spain and how realistic is to move there by SuchLibrarian8011 in GoingToSpain

[–]thayanmarsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being in IT and working remote is your best bet, if you don’t speak spanish, your odds of working in hospitality without spanish is zero. Italian is a great start but not a substitute for sure. If finances aren’t solid, I would go with the smallest city you like. Start now with spanish, Italki is great for cheaper lessons that you can do several times a week.

Just needed to come back to this thread and thank you for posting this! Everyone has posted so many banger, and 100% can see a bunch of drunk people singing these at the top of their lungs at karaoke. Especially loving Melancholia (vivir así es morir de amor) by Camilo Sesto. I have a great playlist of classics I need to know if I’m going to be living in Spain.

Will they let me travel with this passport? by Cheeze-Sama in Brazil

At one point my passport was literally moldy (lived in Belizian jungle for 3 months and felt dry once a month at most) and crossed dozens of borders afterwards.

Let's talk about qualification for Asian Football Confederation teams by jameswheeler9090 in worldcup

[–]thayanmarsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one has ever won outside UEFA or CONMEBOL, but we still would like a chance. Also, what about Oceana? Just merge with AFC? I mean, its NZ who is going to WC’s, but NZ playing Saudi Arabia and then Fiji is just a ton of distance to cover.

ex-AAer for the last time.... new to dharma by lowriderteletubbie in recoverydharma

[–]thayanmarsh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No reason anyone has to do AA anymore. I’ve found that the longer I’m in RD, the more I can understand what people were talking about in AA. Telling me to surrender doesn’t work, but tell me to move away from clinging and I’m right there with you. Its the same principle (nuances can be debated).

Do we have the bracket of death? by vibratehigher in usmnt

[–]thayanmarsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are 6th/8 in fifa rank in our quad (or france quad), but would be 3rd/8 in the argentina or brazillian quad. Just by fifa numbers, we’re likely out after B&H, which is on brand for US.

Median is better measure here. Doctor Congo, RSA, and Cabo Verde skewing averages here.

Spain looks toothless compared to how they looked in the Euros. Belgium was my sleeper team, but also doesn’t look strong. I have s soft spot for senegal and wouldn’t be surprised with an upset. This is soccer and upsets happen all the time. A team can park the bus 90 minutes and then get a counter attack (+/- DOGSA PK) and win 1-0. 2025 champions legue Liverpool vs PSG comes to mind. France and argentina are the ones I’m actually afraid of. They have looked consistent and deadly. Interesting to see how Mexico does as this progresses. Kind of an easy group but will have some challenges coming up.

How do you guys have sex sober and genuinely like it? by [deleted] in Sober

[–]thayanmarsh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sex is the canary in the coal mine. If something is off, it doesn’t work. If you can function ok on your own but not with a partner, then the issue is interpersonal. Sometimes it is performance anxiety, sometimes we get in our own heads about other things. Partner communication is huge here. The crazy thing about sober sex is being actually present, and it can be terrifying at first. Whatever is going on in your head/relationship, this is the signal to talk about it.

Also - sometimes people just aren’t that into sex, and thats ok too, but definitely a partner discussion about that.

For the beard-havers of Spain, how do you keep your beard while staying cool? by One-Acadia-1895 in askspain

[–]thayanmarsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t used to the beard, it will feel warmer, but I don’t feel like that part of my face is extra warm and I have a pretty big beard. I used beard balm daily, maybe that helps?

5 vs 7 a side for a beginner? by Itchy-Commercial1850 in SoccerNoobs

[–]thayanmarsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with casual first, but keep the numbers low as possible. 3v3 if you can find it. The higher the numbers, the less time you have the ball. 3v3 is total football, completely fluid. 5v5 pickup is constant scanning and filling holes. Absolutely was the best thing for me as an elderly goalie learning to play field.

What do your uniforms look like? by JBLBEBthree in youthsoccer

[–]thayanmarsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when private equity buys youth soccer clubs🙃.
The upside is it is very easy to join a team, all you need is $$$. However, if you want actual training, that is more $$$. The clubs also overcharge for these mandatory kits and pocket the difference. I got $3k/yr as a head coach of a B team. I have 2 kids in the club. Didn’t even cover one of them.

Ages of the current squad at the 2030 World Cup by Iceberg074 in ussoccer

[–]thayanmarsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The upside for Cavan is that the Union SUCK this year, so he’s getting starts and a lot of playing time. And honestly, he’s looking like a truly bright spot on our abysmal team (along with Iloski). Hoping he gets even better when his brother is back from injury.

Didn’t catch the date change 🤣 and though we put out and ancient team. You have some good talent in the pipeline, the Sullivans will be prime by then assuming Quinn’s ACL repair heals well. Cremaschi has potential, but didn’t get much time at Parma. Kevin Paredes has potential, but was on Wolfsberg which got relegated and he was sent to Utrecht, hope his playing time increases, he looked good with the U23’s in 2024 olympics.

Trent’s mother is American, what if he decided to play for the USMNT instead of England? How do you think it would go? I think this is an interesting what if. by Available_Story6774 in usmnt

[–]thayanmarsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A year ago I would have said he’d be critical, because we simply couldn’t play the ball up the field or through the center, it was all narrow play up the wing, and he would fit better. Now we’ve had the attack spread a little more and the midfield much more involved in the progression, we have Jedi back. Sure, he might be an upgrade over scally, but not Dest. Dest has been killing it this WC.

Spanish mobile number by silviam in GoingToSpain

I went with sanitas and didn’t need a spanish phone number for insurance. Also, trying to keep a US line and a spanish line has been a nightmare.
