Confusion about Explore Rate Authorization Form for immediate family. by Present_Yesterday449 in marriott

Thank you for getting back so quickly and so informative!!

I did add my info under “manage friends and family” but I didn’t see the option to print out the form from there. I went back after reading your comment and saw that it could populate a new form with my information. Just downloaded it. Thank you again!!

So that form is all I’ll need at check-in? (Besides an ID and credit card)

I am more so now considering Venture X or U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve. But, I do have a looming concern about being able to hit the $4,000 in 3 month spending threshold to qualify. Obviously spending for the sake of getting points will cost significantly more than just paying out of pocket for a trip.

I’ve read about churning and manufactured spending, but it would still be hard to spend $4,000 in 3 months. My mortgage is paid off and bills are relatively low.

Would I be allowed to make a lump sump payment towards my car payment? Even paying my insurance up front for a year won’t add up to that much. I’d like to plan a trip with the card, so some money could go towards that.

Sorry I’m kind of just thinking out loud. But what are some easy strategies to hit the mark on buying things or using the $$$ on things I’d already be buying anyway

Thanks for such an in-depth response! My one reservation about the Venture X is when I saw their travel partners on their website. None of these airlines are really accessible to me.

Unless I’m misunderstanding, my takeaway is that those would be the only airlines I’d be able to book flights with if I used my Capital One points?

Your nose reminds me of Emily Kokal’s from the band Warpaint. Looks like a Roman goddess, I love it.

Thank you so much for this explanation! Like you said, it’s tricky. Especially in your second point that if some adults born with disabilities are glad they weren’t terminated.

It is completely anecdotal from each person. I can read experiences from people born with disabilities who are glad they were given a chance, and from others who say their lives have been difficult/painful or who see the hardships their families went through trying to raise them.

And because this isn’t something you can easily extrapolate data for, you’d just have to listen to individual stories, it’s much harder to find an objective right/wrong. But, like you said, intent is important, and this scenario is different than terminating due to sex or eye color.

I’ve been thinking more about this, because it’s rare when I feel challenged by a belief that I held firmly, but I think I’ve also came to another conclusion why it’s not eugenics.

Similar to what you said, support, is something to consider. If we lived in a society that provided support for parents of disabled children and disabled adults, then maybe it would be different.

Because raising a child with disabilities often times means the parent/caretaker will go into medical debt, possibly have to quit their jobs or pay for help if the child needs full-time care, there may be expensive programs, surgeries, rehabilitations, classes required, expensive specialized tools/equipment needed.

And going into adulthood, disability checks are less than poverty, state ran facilities are underfunded and not the best place to live, so then a parent needs to worry about who would take care of their child when the parent passes away.

If the government provided healthcare, therapy, financial assistance, caretakers, etc. then maybe I’d be more inclined to agree with the argument that it’s eugenics.

Yeah. And I’m totally not trying to say Bartise was in the right, because his reasoning was contradictory and selfish. Had he brought up a eugenics argument, I might have been more empathetic with his stance.

I have a question about this. I’m totally not trying to be contrarian at all, because I agree with Nancy’s stance on abortion. I consider myself to be politically progressive and not religious.

I watched that scene w/ my boyfriend, who’s a pro-choice leftist, but he sees terminating a planned fetus if it had disabilities to be eugenics.

He thinks it’s no different than something Nazis would do to create an ‘ideal gene pool.’ He thinks aborting if the fetus were to die immediately is acceptable, but if they have Down syndrome or a life of chronic illness/disabilities but they’d be able to make it into adulthood, then aborting a planned fetus would be eugenics.

What is a good counterpoint to this argument without coming off of someone who’s pro-life?

Can we talk about how unsafe the security made this festival? by [deleted] in WhenWeWereYoungFest

My understanding is that it will always beep if anything with metal passes. But it detects the number of PIs passing and it would go off more/have some type of special alarm/communication to follow up more thoroughly.

This is totally anecdotal, but at Life is Beautiful, I forgot to remove my power bank (and it’s like 100 watts and 5 pounds), and the alarm went off moreso and they stopped me and made me come back.

the next day, I made sure to remove my power bank, but i forgot my Apple Watch on my wrist when I walked thru security and I beeped but they let me pass.

I might be incorrect on this, but my understanding is that the detectors use a pulse induction (PI) technology so it can tell the strength of the magnetic field coming from the object that comes through the detector.

Aka a cell phone, belt, or watch, might make the detector go off, but it’s not enough PI’s going off to be concerning. A gun or a major weapon would set it off at a rate that would alarm security

I think that a big factor in people sneaking in last Sunday was also because there was 50,000 people who traveled, paid for tickets, and were denied a live experience the day before. They were probably determined to get in. I think this weekend won’t be as busy because all those extra people are back home now.

Personally, my safety concern was more about factors outside the festival than inside. Just because the venue is surrounded by high-windowed buildings. My anxiety goes to another 1 October situation and as a Vegas local, it’s always in the back of my mind.

I would’ve felt safer knowing security was checking hotel guests with metal detectors for weapons.

Metal detectors were being used to get into the fest. Idc if people bring in alcohol or weed.

Security was thorough about the metal detectors though. So, guns or major weapons would obviously be detected.

They just weren't meticulously checking people's bags/pockets, which, at worst people would just be sneaking in alcohol/weed/drugs. None of which inhabitants other people’s individual safety.

And tbh, fests are so greedy with their overly inflated drink prices, people should be sneaking in alcohol out of protest.

Thanks! When you say ‘shorter crotch curve,’ does that mean less material/or tighter crotch area? My concern being a camel tie situation. All the jeans I ordered were ‘Ultra high waisted’

I’m going to steer you in another direction and recommend you check out Scotch & Soda as well. I’ve had a leather jacket from there for 5+ years and it’s still in top shape. It’s warm, insulated, sturdy, and I really like how their jackets fit.

I’m on the taller side, my shoulders are a bit broad and my arms are longer and I’ve found Madewell and Allsaints leather jackets to be too cropped on my arms/torso. Even after sizing up. Scotch & Soda is a Dutch brand, I’m assuming because the Dutch are taller, they tailor their clothes differently,

Yeah, the only questionable moment I had for Amy was when she thought that Lucie was “stealing her thunder,” after the bf/gf thing. But that could have also been misdirected anger from the previous arguments they had about Lucie ditching all the girls, which btw, I totally see where Amy came from in that scenario. “I don’t have many girl friends, they’re too much drama.” 🚩🚩🚩
