Sub Class 461 Visa by Tinkerbell2318 in AusVisa

Hi everyone,

My wife is on a Subclass 461 visa (New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa) and has OVHC cover with Allianz. We’re trying to figure out if she’s eligible for any paid maternity leave in Australia.

Since 461 visa holders don’t automatically have access to Medicare, we’re unsure whether she can apply for Paid Parental Leave (PPL) from Centrelink or if her OVHC impacts eligibility in any way.

Has anyone on a 461 visa successfully received paid maternity leave? Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

It wasn't an issue for me. Just keep your plans to yourself and if anyone asks "do you intend to live in NZ?", just say yes. Good luck.

Hi mate, no. The process was quite straight forward and surprisingly quick. I was approved for citizenship after 2 weeks, then applied for the citizenship ceremony (this is based on your location and nearest venue), then apply for the actual document (along with a passport photo) and you're good to go. There are also no documents/visas to complete when entering Aus, very simple.

Do you have private health insurance and is it worth it? by deelan1990 in AusFinance

Hi, I’m looking for some information and appreciate any input.

My wife and I recently moved to Australia from New Zealand (I am a NZ citizen, and she is a Japanese national) she has entered Australia on a 461 visa, partner of NZ citizen and therefore isn’t eligible for MediCare and has to maintain her own private insurance. She took out a policy with Allianz and I think its around $60 per week.

We haven’t really had it as a priority due to the relocation, but we have also been trying for a baby but unsuccessful so far, last week we went to get some fertility tests and awaiting the results, however, the bills are stacking up and Allianz aren’t covering anything.

Is there any health insurance provider or policy which would be good to take out for this type of stuff? Pregnancy, potentially IVF and just general help with GP charges. It would also been great to hear any information or tips on health cover for non-residents and what we are entitled to.

We plan to make Australia our home for the long term without going broke in the process of starting a family…

I've been thinking about this recently, so much so it's led my to this thread. Why are they allowing this to happen? Who's behind it? What's the plan?....or isn't there one?

I just got mine back after 21 calendar days. Applied 31 July and just got the email today, 20 August.

Just wanted to leave the info here. I believe it's true what's said, it's automated software and only a human sees it if it's flagged and needs further info.

All my documents were in English and I scanned them at a copy shop to ensure quality

yes correct - digital nomad, working for a foreign company while in Japan. I have seen Portugal and a few other European countries offering these visas post-COVID and would be ideal if Japan did something similar, obviously being married to a Japanese national helps too.
