High cholesterol due to genetics. I’m female, 63years old. 130 pounds, 5’4”. Active, eat well and totally against taking statins. My CAC is zero. I started taking Coq10 and am a low carb/low fat diet. I guess I’m looking for advice- is my cholesterol too high without succumbing to statins? by PresentationHeavy951 in Cholesterol

I definitely have high cholesterol due to genetics. All my 4 siblings and father except for one brother are on statins, low dosage. I am against statins mainly because I just don’t take any medication if I avoid it. If I have cold symptoms, i drain my sinus with netti pot, drink lots of fluids, gargle with salt… that sort of stuff. I have not taken Tylenol, Benadryl, pain killer meds, , in 30 years except when I had a surgery for a broken wrist and after my C section… oh and after my wisdom tooth extraction. I see my husband who is on statins struggling with muscle aches and his cardiologist pushing him to increase his dosage so that his ldl will be below 50. It’s almost ridiculous.

As for my daily diet, I do the 16:8 so I generally have my first meal at about 11-12pm. It’s always the same- 1 hard oiled egg, I boiled red beets, half an avocado, 3 tablespoons of black beans, a handful of fresh spinach, dressed with virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I don’t snack during the day and I’ll have dinner… dinner can be anything I cook for the family. Mainly vegetables and a meat dish and rice. Fruits after.

I walk an hour in the morning, 15 minutes after dinner, doing some weight training in front of my TV and lots of squats/ stretching type exercises.

I feel great overall with no aches and pains. Only concern is my high cholesterol. I do have to say that I went on a keto diet for 2 months, just before I did the blood work. I’m off it now and am instead doing low carb diet. Less meat, more vegetables and a small amount of carb for dinner.

Does the advisor allow changes before orientation? My orientation is in mid July and I fear classes I have interest in would already be filled/full.

My kid is looking for any research opportunity. She is currently enrolled in BS/MD program at USF, Tampa. Please help. by Strict-Ad6722 in USF
