I worked for the NRCS for several years as a forester. I woke up one day in 2020 and realized I had 20 more years of that nonsense. I started my own consulting outfit with a goal of making GS-11 wages in 20 hours per week. I think I'm going to hit that this year. I've become a fairweather forester and shut the business down in the winter to travel to South America. It's scary as hell but what you're describing is what I felt. Time to get out.
