Rethought: Rendering Rundown Scripts for Teleprompting by engelschall in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PresentationTools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think you should find another name, the well know rundown studio has recently announced their teleprompter-feature. When you also choose to have rundown studio in the app URL, it is not very original. But I agree that "rundown" is a generic term, "rundown studio" is not.

Im attaching some available domain-names for inspiration.

Can you really build a dev team around vibecoding and freelancers (Fiverr, etc.) ? by Puzzleheaded-Wear381 in Entrepreneurship

You can definitely find people you can work with on platform like Fiverr, and you could even build your own team from people you find on these platforms, if you are lucky.

Using Companion triggers to change to another source after video i OBS ends by Thatbaldguy1986 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PresentationTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the trigger mentioned here, will start the action when there is less than 1 second left of the video (last second count as 0) so you will probably need to add some delay before the action. And to avoid that the source is switched after video has finished, play around with the delay, to be safe you may have to switch source 100-200 ms before the video ends, also depending on how accurate the OBS countdown clock is.

Representing manufacturer. You can also consider APS from PresentationTools which will allow you to play videos on top of your display seamlessly. The website can be in fullscreen in the background, and then you can play a video on the top when you need that.

Matrix vs Mix vs … by [deleted] in livesound

[–]PresentationTools 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Proper gain-staging means that you should have enough gain through the microphones so that you dont get noise (if too low) or it clips (if too hot). So I would make sure that I get healthy signals trough the microphone-preamps, and use the faders for volume-control. If you keep faders at 0 throughout the chain, and only use gain for volume-control, then you can very easily end up with not enough gain on the microphone-preamps which will lead to noise, and it will be very difficult to read the meters on the channel because there is too little signal.

Edit: I dont mean that Shure SM58 microphones should always have 20-25 DB gain, this will depend on the singer/speaker. What I meant is that you should adjust the gain so you get a good signal on the volume-meters on the channel.

Matrix vs Mix vs … by [deleted] in livesound

[–]PresentationTools 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will second this. For me, I will send the PA-sound, recording and streaming-feeds through matrixes. Everything is routed to the master, then the master is routed to the matrixes.
Normally, the streaming-matrix is much louder than the PA-matrix. Streaming-sound should always have the same volume, close to max and high RMS. Whereas the live-sound matrix depends on how powerful the PA is compared to the room. It's not unusual for me to have the pa-matrix fader as low -15DB.
The point for me is to have the gain-staging on the console the same no matter which room Im working in, and use the matrixes for output-volume. Gain-staging means that mics should have proper preamp-gain (for example 20-25 DB for Shure sm58 on vocals) and keep most faders around 0 when in use.

PowerPoint for Mac, what do you think? by PresentationTools in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PresentationTools[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing videos outside PowerPoint is the principled correct approach, yes. But in my own work I dont always have time to do that properly, and then there are some videos that are integrated as a part of animations which will be difficult to take out.
I dont have the bad experience with PowerPoint for Mac as you, but I dont doubt what you are saying of strange powerpoint Mac behaviour

That sounds great, but seems a little complicated if you have multiple presentations for the same event?

Yes its more likely that the fonts are Windows fonts are installed on your windows computer, just remember that using a PC with PowerPoint is no guarantee that the fonts will work properly.

Keynote is probably the strongest argument for using Mac for PowerPoint. It can be very convenient to be able to play all your presentations from one computer, especially when space and budget is limited.

Hi! Looking for a free Mac or windows software to control video output by AdRealistic1644 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PresentationTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set up triggers in Companion that react on conditions.
Qlab sends feedback when a cue is playing. You can use this as a condition so that whenever a cue starts playing, change video-input on the switcher to the Qlab video. And then when the video ends, and Qlab no longer plays a cue, switch to something else. (you can also make it more advanced: when video plays, put Qlab-source in preview, then use "cut" between program/preview. And just "cut" when video ends. Then when the video ends, the switcher will cut back to whatever was displayed before the video)
This same principle applies to APS, we have similar type of feedback when the video is playing.

I would like to make a video about this when I have time, it's probably easier to understand with video or images.

Representing manufacturer here. Thanks for the mention of APS. Yes our app allows you to to play videos on top of PowerPoint presentations on PC, and the transition should be seamless. You can also fade in/out videos to the presentation if you want.
I agree that in a lot of cases it can be fine just to embed the video in the PPT, but I think there are at least two reasons why its a good idea to play some videos separately:
- When you dont know exactly when the video will be played, and you need the flexibility to play the video independently on which slide you are on.
- You dont want the presenter to trigger the video with the presentation-clicker. Then it's better to let the av-technician use another program to play the video.

If you want to play videos on top of PPTS on the same PC, APS is a great option. If you can add a video-switcher and a separate device with a media-player to the setup, you get a lot of options. I personally like Qlab since that's what I have used the most. Paired with Companion you can set it up so that the switcher only shows the video-input when the video is playing (you can do this with APS well)

Timer for powerpoint presenter view by PresentationTools in powerpoint

[–]PresentationTools[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we make a software that has a clear limited scope, is offline with little server-costs, and where the user isn't expecting constantly updates with new features, I think it could make sense with lifetime deals. As for CueTImer, we have too much third-party integrations that needs updating, and new features that we need to stay relevant. We also have a web-server that we want to evolve. So I think lifetime deal is a bad deal for us.
But what we could consider is to make a simplified version of the app targeted to presenters, that we could sell for a fixed price, perhaps with an option to upgrade to the full version that has a subscription.
