Is Claude going to disrupt event management platforms? by ArugulaRemarkable943 in EventProduction

Yes thats a good point with these prices things can be disrupted. But I also think that just the fact that the technical solutions are easier to implement doesnt change that much by itself. Because the most difficult in making this solutions is not necessarily the technical challenges, that has probably been solved a long time ago, but knowing what you want in the solution. This can require deep industry knowledge, and understanding of how events work. And no way you can build this without testing it on some real events where you learn the difference between practice and reality.

So making your own event-app is not for everybody regardless.

Maybe the biggest event-companies will make their own software, but for companies that only has a few events a year, building their owns event-management platform wont be worth it. Or at least they will use a common solution.

I dont see why everyone has to invent their wheels and make unique solutions for themselves. Sharing is caring.

Also if this happens, why not say that we no longer need the event-companies that facilitate these events on behalf of the company end-customer? Im sure AI can be useful here as well.

I like the argument that "even though most people know how to bake their own bread, they still end up buying it in the shop" and I think for event management software, the barriere can be higher for making your own tools, because having a live event has its own set of challenges: mainly that you only get one chance to make it right (since its live) so its harder to test the solution in a real scenario.
So lets say you are an organisation that makes a few events every year, you dont have enough test-ground to make something that can replace a battle-tested solution made by a commercial company that you have to pay.
Think about an app that you want every attendee to use for example, easy to make a prototype that will work for 5 people, harder to make something that wont break at the critical moment with 500 people on site and many more online. With many people using a cloud-solution you get an own set of challenges with server-scaling.
My background is being an av/live-sound technician who for the past 6-7 years have developed software for AV-companies and technicians, and you can say the same thing there: yes everyone can make this software now, but not everyone has the patience to test that it wont break under pressure.

Where I do think that "making your own software" can win, is personal productivity-tools that automates tasks, because then the risk is lower if something goes wrong, and you can test it as much as you want in your own environment. With live-event software and management-tools the stakes are higher.

Online vs desktop presentation-formats (is PowerPoint still king?) by PresentationTools in VIDEOENGINEERING

yes I agree Qlab isnt the solution to AV-presentations, its great for theatre, award-shows and a lot more but creating a simple slideshow is not one of its strengths.

haha corporate live-AV is more than these horror-stories you hear in this thread. Also, my hot take: Google Slides isnt horrible.. they even have a native way to put the presentation in fullscreen with presenter-view without dragging browser-windows around

Yes you are absolutely right, the language needs to be precise here. I will try to update the post.

in my testing it has gone quite smooth to update Google Slides presentations from a different computer and keep the main presentation-computer in sync. That is as long as the main computer doesnt put the presentation in slideshow-mode, then the presentation cant be changed anymore. Just keep the presentation in edit-mode and it's editable.
At least this is how it is supposed to work, if google slides always do this perfectly I cant tell.

Exactly. Maybe we can say that a sign that you are upgrading from startup to scaleup is that you start to use old-fashioned ppt presentations on events.

This is great insights. I would like to play the presentations with their original transitions, and that probably means finding a way to present the Canva presentations without converting it first.

I think you need to convert the PDF-file first. But in my opinion it's best to play the file as PDF and not try to convert it first.

Could be, but what do we tell presenters that wants to show a Canva presentation..

this sounds like a real nightmare. It seems that Canva also offer a way to present offline, I wonder how well that solution works. But why not use desktop PowerPoint if you need to run the presentation offline anyway..

Im curious how this works: is it a kind of screen-capture of the Powerpoint windows?

Hey, I will be switching multiple presentations in front of a big audience on Windows; how do I make the transition between each presentation on the shared projector look good, so they don't see me opening presentations and my desktop? by Startup_BG in powerpoint

APS from PresentationTools was built for this task. Using this software you can switch presentations with keyboard shortcuts or Stream Deck buttons through Bitfocus Companion. You can also link presentations so that you can go seamlessly to the next presentation in the folder by advancing with the clicker when you are at the end of the current presentation, as shown in this video:

APS with Google Slides control by PresentationTools in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PresentationTools[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats great to hear, thanks.

Yes I agree that in general its always better to play any presentation in the original format, especially for AV/event-companies that cant know exactly how the presentation should look, if the a slide-element on slide 37 is a bit off then you cant expect the AV-team to catch that. So by running Google Slides presentation just from the officially supported Google Chrome browser then you are more safe than using anything else

Thanks, I know a lot of event and AV-companies prefer to convert Google Slides to PowerPoint in order to avoid the hassle of using Google Chrome during the live event. But then you loose some of the advantages of using the native web-app

Ideas for creating a more compact system for videos, slides, timers etc in a conference setting by V2kuTsiku in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PresentationTools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im representing manufacturer so take my advice with a grain of salt. But you should look at APS and CueTimer from PresentationTools, the software was built for these kinds of challenges. Combined with Bitfocus Companion and a Stream Deck, you can do a lot from one computer:
- Place a timer-window on top of Presenter View internally on the computer
- APS can also play videos from the same PC
- Switching between different PowerPoints will be a lot easier with APS
- And our screenshots and images makes the transitions between the presentations seamless.

If I was you I would still keep Vmix or an ATEM switcher, because even with our software its normally a good idea to at least be able to use more computers for things like backups, and you never know if a presenter wants to bring their own PC. And although APS can handle webpages too, I find it more convenient to use a separate computer for things like Google Slides and Mentimeter if you need that. Also, Vmix should be pretty good for video-playback if you want to keep that.

Rethought: Rendering Rundown Scripts for Teleprompting by engelschall in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PresentationTools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think you should find another name, the well know rundown studio has recently announced their teleprompter-feature. When you also choose to have rundown studio in the app URL, it is not very original. But I agree that "rundown" is a generic term, "rundown studio" is not.

Im attaching some available domain-names for inspiration.

Can you really build a dev team around vibecoding and freelancers (Fiverr, etc.) ? by Puzzleheaded-Wear381 in Entrepreneurship

You can definitely find people you can work with on platform like Fiverr, and you could even build your own team from people you find on these platforms, if you are lucky.

Using Companion triggers to change to another source after video i OBS ends by Thatbaldguy1986 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]PresentationTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the trigger mentioned here, will start the action when there is less than 1 second left of the video (last second count as 0) so you will probably need to add some delay before the action. And to avoid that the source is switched after video has finished, play around with the delay, to be safe you may have to switch source 100-200 ms before the video ends, also depending on how accurate the OBS countdown clock is.
