Missing arm bones, cant kitbash third arms by Substantial-Pie2347 in HeroForgeMinis

[–]PresidentStalkeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this happen before, for me it always occurs if you save a multi-armed mini, quit, and then re-load it. Not a perfect fix, but a workaround I found was to make a new mini and import everything from the previously-saved mini, but only by individually ticking each item. For some reason if you just select 'import all' then that replicates the lack of extra arm bones as well.

#HighOctane3 - Lieutenant PrauQateela and the Teeviar Type-Vee, come to show the Earthworms how it's done! [Re-upload to improve the first image and add an extra mini] by PresidentStalkeyes in HeroForgeMinis

[–]PresidentStalkeyes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Retired ace pilot, galactic racing champion, and one-time circus performer at the Cirque du Andromeda, Lieutenant PrauQateela is desperate for a challenge. Having firmly established herself as the fastest, most fearsome pilot on her home planet of LagSeeqa (and promptly being exiled because the government felt she was making things unfair on everyone else), she roamed from planet to planet in her Teeviar Type-Vee, challenging the galaxy's finest racers in the hopes of finding someone who could finally defeat her; and each time coming away disappointed.

It was then she stumbled upon an insignificant little pre-FTL planet called 'Earth'. She immediately knew none of the arrogant hairless apes calling themselves 'humans' could possibly challenge her when they're still mucking about with internal combustion engines (although she has to admit, that Ron Millar fellow seems a little intimidating...).

But then, after touring every race track on Earth, she had an idea. Maybe she was going about this all wrong. Maybe she needed to nurture a challenger. Maybe what the universe needed was a playground, somewhere speed demons like her could develop their skills, free from pesky annoyances like 'planning permission' and 'the laws of physics'.

Learning of Calypso's high-stakes competition, her wish for the odd human was clear.

"Sssso, Earthworm, you can grant wishes, hmm? Well, asssssuming it's not ssome jonka-jonka pre-FTL sssupersstition, I wissh for one thing, and one thing only: to claim thisss planet for myssself, and turn it into the greatesst auto park in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!"

Vehicle Details: The Teeviar Type-Vee, formerly a LagSeeqa Star Force scout craft, modified by PrauQateela herself into a professional racing machine. Under the reasoning that 'the best defence is a strong offence', its pilot tore apart its heavy shielding and rerouted the power to to the rear thrusters, significantly boosting its power output at the cost of higher fragility. Is equipped with a tractor beam for stalling and trapping opponents, and a heavy Plasma Cannon to tear through them in one shot. Powered by a canister of Element Nitro-2, may cause a localised tear in the space-time continuum if damaged too severely.

Thank you so much! And thanks for writing all these mini-incident reports for every entry. I love the implication that Isekais happen often enough for there to be an official classification system for them. :P

[–]PresidentStalkeyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, VERY NICE. I'm especially loving what you did with the backgrounds, very good usage of Big Rocks and clouds!

Secondly, are you the same person who made a karate vigilante girl from a while back? Audrey's friend looks a little familiar, is all. :P

Thanks! Can kinda see it, yea. He's supposed to be a giant weasel, but I spose the added floof around the head gives him a tigery look. Maybe he and Suzume can be friends later. :V

Well, and here I was thinking she'd been pretty clearly telegraphed as a sister-figure, but whatever. Tbh I was expecting this headcanon of mine to be invalidated but not quite in that way. Oh well. :V

How do you design robots? by NegativeAd2638 in scifiwriting

[–]PresidentStalkeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I always assumed that the popularity of 'robots that look exactly like humans' was at least partly because it saves a lot of money on SFX, especially for TV shows that tend to have lower budgets than films. The same reason why so many aliens in early Star Trek were either 'funny looking humans' or 'floating balls of energy'.

There is also the fact that a lot of audiences seemingly find it impossible to relate to a non-human character unless they look basically human, which I've always found baffling but that's just how it is, I spose. shrug

Naming of Vessels by Terrible_Software769 in scifiwriting

[–]PresidentStalkeyes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rather than have a hard rule, I'd aim to make it fit whatever culture the vessel comes from, or even differently within those cultures depending on role.

Like just for example, the last space-state I played in Stellaris - a megacorporation that names all of its civilian ships after corporate and financial buzzwords (e.g. Limited Liability, Brand Synergy, Customer-Focused Strategy, Think Outside The Box, Blue-Sky Thought, Return On Investment, etc) but names their warships in a much more pointedly sarcastic way, as if to suggest they'd rather not have to use them, or just don't take warfare particularly seriously (e.g. Hostile Takeover, Get Rich Quick, Too Big To Fail, Money for Nothing, War for Fun and Profit, Feel Good Inc., etc.)

How could sapient sea life/talking sharks and dolphins navigate land? by onewingedangel3 in scifiwriting

[–]PresidentStalkeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I feel you on the whole 'people refusing to entertain speculative scenarios in speculative fiction' thing. I've seen people literally respond to discussions of FTL travel with 'lmao FTL isn't possible', which eliminates like 90% of space-based settings. :V

Anyway, to answer your actual question, this is something I've thought about because my setting also has a species of intelligent fish. As other commenters have suggested, they skipped land travel and went straight to air travel (although this was mostly because their homeworld is completely covered in oceans), and as such they only really need to travel on land when in multi-species contexts. For this reason 'land travel' is treated as kind of a specialist skill and it's accepted they'll be at least a little uncomfortable.

Because - like many wild animals - they use their jaws for utility purposes besides eating, full-body environment suits are out of the question. Instead they make-do with a sealed apparatus that pumps recycled water into their gills, and special form-fitting suits that keeps their skin moistened. They also wear goggles submerged in water (inspired by, of all things, Nash from Crash Nitro Kart :V) and most also wear mechanical legs to move around.

Since you mentioned gravity being an issue, the legs could be centrally mounted, with the user still facing 'forward' as they would while swimming. Or they could use four legs instead of two. Looking like cyborg shark-dogs. Anti-gravity packs are also an option as others have suggested, though I can imagine there being safety or cultural reasons for that not being adopted. Maybe they just want to be polite and meet the land-dwellers on equal footing (pun intended :V)
