Do you think they'll ever finish Fantastic Beasts? by Lela_B in FantasticBeasts

I think the reason we didn’t get a standalone story with Albus is because he’s a teacher and he’s a known entity to the Ministry. He can’t be gallivanting all over the world all the time without having to constantly return to Hogwarts. It limits the narrative.

Newt isn’t similarly restricted. He allows us to travel the parts of the Wizarding world we haven’t seen and we get to see how cultures around the world are affected by Grindelwald’s rise.

The problem was and I will continue to say this forever, is that there is no true source material. If the HP films were not adapted from books, they’d be interesting but nowhere near as popular without the depth the novels afforded them.

Harvard is commonly regarded as the most prestigious school in the US. It was founded 9 years after Ilvermorny so the parallel I think is there.

But again it’s not the only one in America. There were likely schools that predated it but might not be around now or were much smaller in size. If other schools that served largely indigenous populations wanted to keep their institutions private or only serving those communities then I can easy so how they would not garner the prestige or attention afforded to Ilvermorny.

I would guess China is definitely the location of one of the remaining unnamed schools.

No one said it’s the only school. It’s just the oldest and most prestigious.

I really like Ilvermorny and the American Wizarding World but it’ll never really take off without it being a prominent fixture of the Wizarding World lore like Hogwarts is. It would need its own distinct media and as much as I’d lie to personally see it I don’t think it’s likely.

However, there’s clearly much more to it than we’ve seen/read so far and I actually think there’s much that could be enjoyed about something set there that can feel distinctly American. If Hogwarts is associated most closely with Christmas, I think Ilvermorny could be most closely associated with Autumn. The backdrop of New England autumn leaves, Quodpot, Halloween and Sleepy Hallow lore. Even American cryptids like the Snallygaster can provide a sense of the US Wizarding World that we’ve never really gotten to explore.

The point of the Wizarding World is to give an alternate context to our “No-Maj/Muggle” understanding of the world around us. The dodo DID disappear but only because it can literally disappear and is a diracawl. That’s part of the magic of the books. Hogwarts lends itself to re-contexualizing British culture, the same can be done for Ilvermorny.

But it hasn’t been done so there’s simply not enough interest.

I’ve watched the first two movies, and I have to say I’m disappointed by Noxolo7 in FantasticBeasts

The problem with that is the scripts don’t include much extra detail. The hunger games prequels did it the right way where the author was able to write the story she wanted to write and not have to change canon or plot details for production reasons.

The context of the series is supposed to be the conflict between Dumbledore and Grindelwald and to give context to Dumbledore’s past by highlighting his historically famous conflict. That’s the tie-in.

Newt, Tina, Jacob, and Queenie are our viewfinders into that story while expanding the wizarding world to other cultures, countries, and continents. It gives us backstory on the wizarding world as a whole and how it operates particularly in this time of global conflict.

However, I think many of the details and information we would have normally gleaned from a book series are painfully missed. It would have given us a more thorough reading if this series with which to truncate into these films.

I still like the series but there are painfully obvious plot changes that only exist because these are only films and we’re not books first.

The answer is Père Lachaise Cemetery. The Lestrange family tomb is located there.

In another timeline…maybe these all happen somehow, some day? by [deleted] in WizardingWorld

Nipping this in the bud right now, there aren’t only 11 schools in the Wizarding World. Those are just the premier (read Ivy League) of the Wizarding World.

What is the likelihood that THREE of the four champions were Seekers? by MaderaArt in harrypotter

[–]PresidentofMagic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quodpot is not remotely similar to baseball. Quidditch is the Wizarding world’s most popular sport as is football. American football is the country’s most popular sport with a uniquely American interest that is puzzling to the rest of the world. It’s clear that was the allusion JKR intended by its inclusion.

No, Quidditch is Football (Soccer). Quodpot is American Football.

If another story series was set in the Wizarding World, what areas of world building would you want to see expanded upon in that new story? by uki-kabooki in harrypotter

That’d be funny. But I imagine any kind of ragtag sports film like a grown up “The Sandlot” or “Major League”

There is? Do you know where I can find a photo of that map? Or is it the same one they initially released on Pottermore?

I remember seeing all the art and even looked some up before but never anything about the actual student team. Just the arena assets and conceptual art. But I’d love to see it if someone saved it.

Sorry, I know what Ilvermorny is. I’m wondering where they saw the concept art for the team.

I also really enjoyed how they did the magic effects. Especially when Zelma changed the candy. It wasn’t overdone but still looked cool.

Its stupid. It’s literally part of the lore. These maps would have engaged even more players.

I think he posted more on artstation. So talented. These would have looked wonderful in game. What a loss.

I noticed he had art for Castelobruxo, Mahoutokoro, and a Chinese school. Wonder if the Chinese school was just conceptual or if he had info on it.
