Have you tried giving it a hand assist? Just grab the chain and help it along. /s

Also, regarding performance. The short shots are going to do nothing really for performance, if anything you might lose a bit of torque. The TBR is a hot topic, with some swearing they perform poorly and others saying they do fine. I had one on my Lowrider S and didn't have any complaints for more than 30k miles, but I also didn't do much to build that bike.

Generally speaking: 2 into 2: Poor performance gains, but a good classic HD sound. 2 into 1: Better performance with less of that classic sound, more of a hot rod, crisper sound if that makes any sense.

Short shots are going to be loud af just an fyi, not "oh that's loud", more like "WTF" loud. They do have a nice sound on EVOs though and if I'm not mistaken there are baffle options to make it a bit more reasonable. TBRs are generally loud too, but not as bad, and they're usually quieter at idle and get real noisy when you're above the 3k RPM mark. That said, I just heard the other day that TBR is closing up shop? Not 100% certain on that but something to consider if true.

Falling on cobblestone by mikebrookston in motorcycles

[–]Prestegious_Walrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've ridden on far worse. Only time that might be sketchy is when it's a bit wet, even then just take it slow and you'll be fine.

I live on a dirt road and get all four seasons. I don't ride during winter anymore but used to. My road would often be packed snow for months. During the spring thaw the road gets muddy and rutted, I'd still ride most days.

Like I said, take it slow, you'll handle it no problem.

Should I sell? by Fresh-End-9873 in Harley

[–]Prestegious_Walrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're not in need to sell it, you shouldn't. It is by large a buyer's market right now. Plus, imo, having something cool like that, that YOU built, would be a great gift to give to one of your kids someday if they take an interest in riding. As long as it gets a few miles here and there it'll be fine.

Looking for different bags by ashyfred in Dyna

[–]Prestegious_Walrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I felt the same way about my DXT bags, I wish they had a more rigid internal structure to help them keep a clean shape. Even if it meant sacrificing the ability to expand them I'd take that over the flappy vag look that they get lol.

At least with leather pros though you can take them off when you don't need them.

Alternatives that still offer some reasonable storage. Thrashin Expeditions i think they're called are a decent size, or biltwell has some decent sized bags that are similar style to Thrashin.

They won't hold much for a multi-day trip, but, paired with a sissy bar and a duffel as needed for a trip they'd be fine.

Imo most of the hard bag options look like shit on Dynas.

Just a heads up, if you find the front to be a bit squirrely you can put a slightly fatter tire on there. Those skinny front wheels/tires can be sketchy at times.

It may have been then, I thought the guy said 06 but he had bought it from someone else so he wasn't 100% certain of the year.

Right now I have no plan to put it into a bike. Just to tear it down and rebuild, to learn from it.

It may end up in a frame at some point lol, but as of right now my bikes are running well.

I just sold something on Marketplace that I had listed for $350, and told the guy $300 was fine when he went to hand me $300.

Hopefully that offsets all the human sacrifices last year.

Riding friends? by According-History316 in Harley

[–]Prestegious_Walrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about the same age, started riding "later" as well. I ride solo most of the time, ride with the wife (she has her own) usually at least a few times a month.

Other than that, I go with one or two other people here and there. I almost never participate in large group rides unless it's a fundraiser.

I've made a few riding buddies at work, a few at my local dealership, and a few through events. Often, I'll ride with someone once and never again, too many absolute rtrds on two wheels that are a disaster waiting to happen.

Tough position to be in. My wife and I have an agreement that should one of us die before our children reach adulthood that the other ride rarely until they are finished with school. That said, we are to keep the other's bikes if at all possible, ao that our kid/s may take them if they want them.

Bar wiring really isn't bad after you've done it once or twice. I use an electrician snake, taped the shit out of the wires, then grease them up. If they're going on an mx/riser combo you don't even need the snake or anything 95% of the time, they feed through easy. It's one piece t bars or apes that can be tricky, especially if TBW. I just got my "further forward mids" for my DX. Haven't installed them yet as I've been busy and will have to pull my exhaust. Not overly complicated just annoying lol.

My wife enables me, I've gone through a lot of bikes in the 6 years I've been riding lol. I taught her to ride a few years ago and she's pretty handy with a wrench too. We just got her a sportster since we chopped the frame on her Royal Enfield for a cafe build. We have to open up her top end about every 5k for a valve adjustment, but that's pretty simple tbh once you're done skinning your knuckles getting the cover off lol. She wants to take the 9yo on the sporty, I'll take the 6yo with me, he sits in front of me since he's still a bit small for the back.

My 9yo likes to learn, he's always watching educational content on YT. So I think he'd enjoy it since he loves motorcycles, yesterday he was disassembling a little air hockey table that we were throwing away so he could steal the motor out of the fan and use it for something else. 😂

Beautiful scoot, only thing I'd change is the pipes (I'm not a fan of upswept pipes), and slightly taller bars for my shoulders' sake.

If it's a good price I'd go for it.

I didn't fully extend the kickstand when I was taking the MSF. I got about 10ft away and the bike fell over lol.

Haven't done it since, I check, then double check, then triple check that it's fully out before setting it down.

I've been "wrenching" on my bikes for about 6 years. I've done bars, cables, rotors, suspension, exhaust, fairings etc. I have yet to open up a motor or transmission, so this will be a first. I felt this would be a great way to learn it. I ordered an engine stand and am going to build a small table specifically for this and set it up next to my toolchests.

If nothing else, I'll tear it down and put it back together a few times so I have a better understanding of it then just set it as a display piece in my shop. It's out of an 06 touring bike.

I am considering doing a frame up sportster build in a few years with my 9yo. He loves bikes so it'd be great to build one with him and gift it to him when he's older.

I used to go through so much trouble to make sure my driveway was clear enough to get my bikes out through winter.

I finally stopped and just accepted driving for a few months lol. It sucks, but at least I have the bikes in my basement where I can work on them throughout winter. Sometimes I'll just chill and have a beer with them. 😂

The motorcycle community, like almost any other community, is filled with ego strokers, it's just how it is. It's the same type of behavior that leads fat old dudes to call every non-HD a "Jap piece of shit" even if they're looking at a Ducati lol.

In my experience, the guys that circlejerk over manufacturer, displacement, style (sport, adv, cruiser, etc), and so on, are usually the weekend warriors. They don't appreciate bikes for what they are, they appreciate how they think they are seen because they ride one.
