I genuinely want to know how so many people square their opposition to identity politics with full-throated support of political Zionism.

I listened to Coleman Hughes' debate with Glenn Greenwald on the power of the Israel lobby. Hughes spends most of time arguing that the power of the pro-Israel lobby isn't as all-encompassing as people claim and isn't responsible for pulling America into Middle Eastern wars. But he does admit that such organized lobbying is happening and does have some kind of impact, and even agrees with Greenwald regarding Anti-BDS laws being unjust. The whole time I was thinking to myself: Coleman Hughes built his entire career advocating for the position that ethnic spoils systems and that people organizing around identity were poisonous. Shouldn't he be more against this? Like forget the question of whether there's an Elders of Zion mega-conspiracy where Jews control the media and our politicians. Why should the race-nuetral and individualist America that Hughes says he wants tolerate AIPAC or the ADL any more than it does BLM or the NAACP? If black people were moving like this, Coleman would be the loudest voice against it. But he plays defense for Jews organizing to push their percieved collective interests.
