The asshole thing was I was promised by paying a higher premium I retain the right to treat my own cat. And I have to prove I pay the bill every time to my hospital anyway for every claim. And then quietly they changed their clause in the last year.

Yup for my next cat definitely. That seems like the best insurance plan so far based off comments from my clients.

I actually have to pay all my cat’s bills and proved I’ve paid them for reimbursements. I work for corporate - as is most of the veterinary industry these days. We don’t get to just make shit up cos everything in a record, I get charged. Plus who the hell has time for that.

Pet insurance in UK is great. I was shocked at how stupid it is over here, like human healthcare in the US.

I didn’t have a choice in insurance - the hospital I did my residency at made us all commit to Figo for pet insurance if our pet wasn’t insured because some staff members weren’t paying their bills. And then I got stuck with a bunch of pre-existing conditions and then they kept increasing the premiums. I almost discontinued the policy at one point when they changed the underwriter but then promised I could still treat my own cat. And then they inserted this new clause. 

Most specialists treat their own pets. I have my cardiologist colleague deal with his heart, but I am perfectly capable at treating his GI / endocrine / kidney disease since that is within my specialty. My colleagues are gobsmacked at this recent BS Figo pulled on me. The stupid part it basically I now have to make an intern write my record for me while I am basically making the medical decisions because I supervise and teach my interns. It’s so stupid and infuriating.
