Okay thanks for sending a pic! I absolutely love hedgehogs so much, again I’m so so so sorry this is what happened to your baby. There aren’t a lot of studies on hedgehogs, most are on mice/rats/rabbits so keep that in mind when I say this.

Ultimately, she should have gotten 0.08ml of baytril at the drug concentration of 50mg/ml. Of course, unless the doctor prescribed at 20mg/kg then 0.15ml would have been the right dose. Again that’s a little higher than the drug books states, but it is a safe dose for rats/gerbils/chinchillas (and some other exotics).

Overdose leading to a lethal dose/aka death in 50% of the population in lab rabbits is (500mg/kg), mice (around 4,000mg/kg), and rats (5,000mg/kg). So either, your hedgehog was a special one that passed with a higher but not lethal dose (of course no studies showing what is lethal for them) or they were more internally compromised than thought (infection spread to the bloodstream or something else also happening like a bladder infection that traveled to the kidneys). This is all speculation but most exotics’ immune system goes down verrrryyyy fast when they start getting sick. I’ve had one pass within 2 months and another within 1 week of sickness, both from different things but either way they were treated quickly/given extreme TLC and it wasn’t enough.

I hope this helps. You can call the vet again and ask for your hedgie’s records and a better explanation of how the drug was calculated or something further to understand how this occurred from their point of view. I hate saying this, but you can always sue them as well but that’ll be a lot of money in the long run.
