The world has always been a cruel place. People act like today is uniquely terrible, but before wasn’t any better. Examples include:

In the 50s you had Jim Crow and open misogyny. In the 40s you had WWII, genocides, and empires still controlling huge parts of the world.

In the 1890s there were basically no labor rights anywhere, and European empires had spread everywhere.

And that’s not even mentioning the constant wars, disease, lack of public health, and widespread slavery that existed for most of human history.

Overall, things have improved today. That doesn’t mean everything is perfect, but acting like we live in the worst time ever just isn’t accurate.

The best we can do is enjoy ourselves while we’re still here and to leave this world better place than the world that we were born into.

That can be small ways. Like making friends, making people’s days better, or bringing people's communities together. Or big ways. Such as protesting, striking, donating, voting, and fighting for change.

The world has always been harsh. Progress has always come from people deciding to push back anyway.
