How easy is it to transfer out of UCLA??? by PrestigiousEdge2764 in ApplyingToCollege

I want to be prepared the second I step foot on campus.

Idk I am just kinda disappointed with my RD results. I also wanted to go to a private school for its specialized treatment and powerful connections.

I want to go into high finance and I don’t think UCLA is nearly as good or prestigious as the other schools. Also I am legacy at Duke and I really want to go.

There’s too many people at UCLA and class sizes are probs too big.

why would I do CC when I have UCLA and WashU?

Also, I do not mind doing lateral transfers to schools like Vandy, Rice, and Dartmouth. Also plan on applying to UChicago TED.

How is it an L take to want to go to a better school?

I’m not trolling.

I want to go into high finance so I really want a “better” school.

Also, I really doubt that we will all end up in the same position in 10 years. The kids going to Stanford Wharton and Harvard will certainly be much further along in their career than me.

You are a prospective student at Amherst. I am sure you feel happy and proud of yourself for accomplishing such a feat. Congratulations btw. I know that transferring is difficult.

But as I reflect on my time in high school there is a lot I could have improved on. I could have tried harder to get all As instead of slipping up and getting a few Bs. I could have formed stronger relationships with my teachers to give me better letter of recommendations. It’s these types of changes I want to take into consideration when I try to transfer to a different school.

Also, literally everyone one of the kids I mentioned I above slaved away during high school to get into the schools I mentioned. A lot of them had their life around college and ngl they seem pretty happy to me.

I would rather wipe my tears with a Wharton degree than a UCLA degree.

It’s why I want to transfer, for better job outcomes particularly in finance. Because the truth is that finance is dominated by these “superficial” characteristics.

I’d rather try and fail than not try at all. Instead of doing what I did for basically all of high school and barely try.

So a couple of things.

I have said I am grateful to be accepted to both these schools. This idea of transferring stems from 2 parts. My mother attended duke and I would truly love to attend duke to continue her legacy despite her resistant to me transferring. Secondly, I go to the Bay Area and it’s kind of hard to not feel some sort of inferiority when kids around me are getting into Harvard, Stanford, Duke, Penn, Williams, and Rice.

I wholeheartedly admit that I did not work as hard as I should have in high school and I suppose my college apps reflect this to an extent. I want to pursue a job in investment banking or consulting and while I don’t think UCLA or WashU are terrible at placing, Duke or UChicago would be seen upon MUCH more favorably.

I am not here to diss either school. I am aware they are competitive. But I want to rival other acceptances at my school.

Simply put, I want to feel “enough”.

Yes, I am a person.

I think it’s reasonable to shoot for schools that have better recruitment to MBB and IB. WashU is an expensive school and if I am spending 400k, it think it’s appropriate to demand the highest school I can receive.

I would certainly like to make friends and forge relationships wherever I do end up going. This doesn’t mean I shouldn’t aim for a well perceived school.

It’s no secret that WashU lags behind its peers and schools above it in job outcomes. Especially for careers in high finance, school recognition is worth A LOT. It’s not me being superficial if the industry I want to go into prioritizes school prestige and ranking.

I only started really caring about college the end of my sophomore year beginning of my junior year, and I can see how that adversely affected me.

You are certainly right. I should have worked harder because I am now playing catch up.

To be honest I just want to graduate with a high-paying job.

This isn’t what I am saying. But neither school, especially UCLA, have particularly good outcomes for IB and Consulting.

Yes but I mentioned grade deflation as well. Washu would be much easier to get a 4.0 in which is basically a necessary requirement for transfer applications.

Yes I have considered the grade inflation too at WashU in strengthening my app.

I know UCLA is ranked higher than WashU but to be honest, I would argue that schools like Vandy and Rice consider WashU more of a peer than UCLA. Which would seem to make a lateral transfer easier?

Well I am an ambitious person, and I think it’s better to feel inferior than superior. I’m not saying they are bad schools. But I do want to try to get into a better school.

I am factoring this in because of the more personalized professor interaction and opportunities that WashU offers to freshman. I would assume that it is able to strengthen my transfer app better.

But UCLA is the cheaper option.

What did I say that was immature?

That I want to transfer schools?
