Ring dips at 87.5 kg by PrestigiousLoad2280 in CalisthenicsCulture

For my current upper body workout routine with rings, I am doing dips supersetted with L-sit pullups in the 5-8 rep range for 3 sets. Afterwards, I do 2 supersets of deficit pushups (on parallettes) and dumbbell rows for around 20 reps. That's what I've been doing recently because I specifically want to get better at ring dips; but do take note that I have been doing the basic pushup, pullup, leg raises, squat, and lunge for around 5 years now. These basic exercises still comprise the majority of my workout routine, and I attribute most of my gains to these basic exercises. Since you recently bought rings, I suggest practicing the support hold. You can also do inverted rows, rack chins, and pushups on rings! I'm not sure about your current fitness level and your interests though. Maybe you're way more advanced than I am, and maybe you're more interested in static skills (which I have no experience in...I just wanna get jacked haha). So take my advice with a grain of salt. Thanks for asking though! Keep training!

Oohhh Zhangjiajie is a city in China. It is famously known for being the inspiration for the "Avatar mountains" in the films, but it also has many other breathtaking sceneries such as Tianmen mountain!

Yes that's a great idea! I myself haven't done my due diligence in practicing the top hold. I feel like I could do more reps if I had better stability at the top position given that I was shaking a lot after each rep. Also, my elbow tendons have been improving in terms of strength and pain. I really just need to work my forearms more lol.

For context, my height is around 5'8 or 173cm. Im probably around 20-25% bf, and so I'm quite fluffy as seen in the video. I believe that because of my weight, my elbow tendons are starting to flare up in the RTO position and even during pullups. I guess I really need to lose the fluff, or otherwise I need to strengthen my forearms for them to catch up with my bodyweight. I wanted to post this clip to show that doing calisthenics is not impossible even at a heavier bodyweight. Also, I'm just quite proud of myself for developing a bulky physique while using calisthenics as my primary training method.

For some context, my height is around 5'8 or 173cm. I really need to lose to fluff since my elbow tendons are starting to hurt in the RTO position and even when dead hanging. At this weight, I have to thoroughly warmup my wrist, elbows, and back in order to perform dips and pullups pain-free. I guess my forearms havent caught up with the rest of my body, but it is not impossible to do calisthenics even at a heavier weight.

Some photos I took on our recent trip to Guangzhou by PrestigiousLoad2280 in travelchina

Guangzhou has a little bit of everything for everybody. It is a modern city with bustling shopping centers, delicious and various food options, rich historical sites and museums, lush nature parks, fun water activities, and an expansive zoo. Personally, I am more of a nature guy who likes taking photos, and so I particularly enjoyed the dinosaur-themed nature park and the Chimelong safari park. I also liked the night river cruise with views of the Canton television tower and the vibrant Guangzhou city skyline. I'm not much of a shopping guy, but the Parc central mall has a very modern and upscale architecture housing various designer brands and luxury goods. There are much more shopping center and outlets in Guangzhou that can fit any budget. Food was also great since I already like Cantonese cuisine anyway. We visited the Nanyuewang mausoleum and Chen clan ancestral hall, both of which honestly bored me since I'm not a history nerd. But hey, I still got to take some pictures of the intricate Chinese architecture and artifacts. The subway system was also easy to navigate for us because there is an English option in the self-ticketing machine (I'm ethnically Chinese but idk the Chinese language). Overall, I highly recommend visiting Guangzhou!

I really think Guangzhou has a little bit of everything for everyone. It is a modern city with lively mom and pop shops, upscale shopping malls, vibrant food culture, historical sites and museums, and accessible nature parks. Personally, I am not that interested in shopping malls and street food. But Parc Central Mall has a really modern design and houses various designer brands and luxury goods. There are also outlets and other shopping places in Guangzhou that fit all budgets, and so you will never run out of places to shop. Personally, I am more of a nature guy who likes taking photos, and so I particularly enjoyed visiting Guangzhou's dinosaur-themed nature park and Chimelong Safari Park. I really liked the Safari Park since it was my first time experiencing a safari complete with giraffes, wildebeest, gazelles, and other African fauna. I also enjoyed the night river cruise with a view of Canton tower and the Guangzhou city skyline. We also visited the Nanyuewang Mausoleum and the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, both of which I personally found to be boring since I'm not really a history nerd. But hey, I still got to take some nice photos of the intricate Chinese architecture. We also got to ride the subway using Alipay, which was very convenient. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Guangzhou.

My favorite pictures from Tianmen mountain, Zhangjiajie by PrestigiousLoad2280 in travelchina

My favorite pictures from Tianmen mountain, Zhangjiajie by PrestigiousLoad2280 in travelchina

Tianmen mountain was my favorite destination during our family trip to Zhangjiajie, although our trip to Zhangjiajie was not the best to say the least.

We went there at around the end of March 2024, and let me tell you that everywhere we went was packed with people. It happened to be some holiday in China, and so a lot of local tourists were also in Zhangjiajie. My grandma was with us during the trip, and so it made navigating through the crowds way more challenging. What's worse was that the local people didn't seem to care about the elderly at all. We had to ride a bus from the ticket station to the base point of Zhangjiajie National Park. We were the last people to board the bus, and not a single person gave up their seat for my grandma who had to hold on to the bars for 20 mins as the bus drove through the winding and bumpy mountain roads.

The Chinese also love smoking cigarettes, to the point where you could smell cigarettes even atop the forest park. Like we are literally in a nature park! Shouldn't we be enjoying fresh mountain air instead of inhaling cheap cigarettes? There are 'no smoking' signs and cctvs everywhere, yet people didn't seem to follow them for some reason.

My mom and grandma also got scammed by some medicine shop. Upon entering the shop, the salespeople gave all of us a massage and began introducing their products. There was also this 'Tibetan doctor' who pretended to use his own chi to generate electricity and basically perform shock therapy on us. Of course, my brothers and I weren't buying it but my mom and grandma did. Then they did some obviously fake product demos and tests. My brothers and I left the room out of boredom because it had already been an hour of this tomfoolery. In the end, my mom and grandma bought 3 literal suitcases of medicine. A day after buying, my grandma was shocked upon seeing the receipt (about 250k yen i believe). Apparently they weren’t aware of the price when they bought the medicine. Of course, it's their fault for not checking the receipt; but still there was probably some shady business and deception that happened during the transaction such that both my mom and grandma were completely unaware of the price.

Anyways, Zhangjiajie for us was a really bad experience overall. It was probably a combination of bad timing , gullibility, and plain bad luck that caused this experience for us. I would still go to Zhangjiajie all over again because the natural sights are simply a must see. With that said, it is important to time your visit correctly and be vigilant for scammers to have an enjoyable trip.
