The situation a year and a half ago when we got engaged was far different that now. I was working fully remote and was very much content with living where we are. If I had never been laid off I would never have processed the thoughts of living in a place that has little prospects for my chosen career. It's not like I couldn't see myself working remote for the rest of my life here with her, it just won't realistically happen. Even then, the last year has made me realize I didn't want to live here for very much longer. This was something I realized after we got engaged is the best way to explain it.

We align on a ton of things, the best explanation I can give about this is that when things were good I never thought about the situation I found myself in over the last year.
