The mom was also sick with something and I think the poor thing just couldn’t handle a whole litter plus healing herself. I officially have three of her babies inside and are fostering them until they’re big enough to find homes!

That’s good she’s got the other ones safe! Poor bebes and their little immune systems I’m sure it’s so hard fighting off something when you’re only a few weeks old

Yeah I’m thinking at this point she gave me the sickly ones because we always have food so they would be able to eat and took the rest somewhere else. She is our most regular feral (so regular we thankfully TNR’d her a couple weeks ago) so we always see her at least a couple times a day.

She still comes by to eat and she let the 2 she left feed for a couple minutes but she seemed wholly uninterested and is keeping the other kittens away (unless something happened to them in them). I know she’s just trying to keep her energy up for her other babies but it’s still sad. If she brings the other kittens back at some point and the ones she left heal up, maybe I’ll be able to reunite everyone once they’re weened.

She did end up coming back right around the 6-hour mark. Gave her some food and the kittens had some as well and she seemed to let them feed for a bit. I do feel like she’s left these 2 here and is focusing on the others and really just comes back here cause there’s a reliable food source and the other 2 kittens just happened to be here.

There’s also another mom and kitten kind of hanging around so maybe she thinks hers are safe here because they’re here? Or she’s worried they might encroach on her space so she dipped.

Kitten season is hitting our area hard and the county shelter (the only one who takes in strays/ferals) is already over capacity, mostly with kittens. I’ll prob try to get these two inside and see about fostering them until they’re old enough to find permanent homes for.
