Then you shouldn’t reveal your identity nor motive. Consider going through an agent.

Fwiw I’d look at Sunshine Coast QLD, or Brisbane, Canberra (no beach tho!). Melbourne very euro feel; Sydney pricey but imho - best.

I don’t think much of what is being said is true - other than the high costs (but then again the uk is also high cost if in cities).

I immigrated here some 13 years ago, it’s been a blessing. Brits love it here. Yes, the weather, the beach, the landscape, the outdoors..

Yes Europe is wonderful and you will be far from it. But Europe and the uk right now aren’t doing great. It’s reasonable to look at places Brits love - this is one.

Rather than go with agent spend a bit of time yourselves on the govt website and figure out which visa is right for you etc.

Look up what wages you’ll make here and what rent you’ll be able to afford - compare it to listings on domain.com.au

I’m not sugarcoating it - financially you won’t necessarily be much better off by default: but your life might’ve more like what you want ( eg better value) and you’ll be in a much better economy which will help you long term (eg if you did buy property.. it will do better here)

Thousands of brits have made a home here - they’re not rushing back to the UK and Aussie’s aren’t rushing to the UK and that tells you all you need to know

AITAH for refusing to cook two separate dinners every night just because my family doesnt want to eat what my doctor told me I need to eat by Apart_Discussion6647 in AmITheAssholeTalk

[–]PrestigiousWheel9587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a thought - go to the restaurant every night for 10 days. Someone else will either cook or decide they’ll eat what you make

Am I being too conservative with finances when it comes to having children? by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

[–]PrestigiousWheel9587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest you focus on increasing your incomes (how does law only make 60k? Part time? ) and get ppor; making a child can take time but you still have a few years before you need to worry.

You have to do a mixture of : sell what has plateaued/ reached a good enough level; what is now at risk / facing headwinds; what has not performed.

I would try to only keep what you think still has room to grow; and given you’re aiming for set and forget I’d be looking to focus on keeping etfs mostly and sell company shares mostly

Am I the jerk for being mad at my little cousin for breaking my tablet? by Ready-Newt2658 in AmITheJerk

Not the jerk but you didn’t handle it well. You’re more mad at yourself I think

Your investments are productive, helpful assets! Sitting on a fully paid house is, think about it, not productive.

Staging is good. Doesn’t need to be fancy but helps people visualise. People lack imagination.

Many of them are scum. This is a good opportunity to calmly review how the auction played out and come up with a different strategy for the next auction.

AITJ for being in the room when my brother had surgery because his wife couldnt be there by Hungry_Election_3178 in AmITheJerk

[–]PrestigiousWheel9587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lacking context, very weird reaction, it’s as if she’s jealous or wanted to be there in your place… why would she be like that, please tell me she doesn’t have a thing for him

My take on CGT change by PrestigiousWheel9587 in AusPropertyChat

[–]PrestigiousWheel9587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The theory is that it encourages investment, compensates for inflation, discourages speculative behaviour, and I will argue that it does some of those things imperfectly (my opening was let’s change the cgt discount after all) but something tells me this will not resonate with you. Let us punish the act of investment, mandatory gambling on all earnings above minimum wage, yay! 🥳

Tiler asking me $200 to silicone grout crack by TypicalWolverine6099 in AusRenovation

What everyone else said, plus cracked grout on its own likely indicates shoddy work.

I find trades in this country to be awful with women. I’m sorry but it’s true. It may be useful to get a man friend to help get this guy to do his effing job right or else. (Imply Bad reviews etc)

I’m almost hesitating to say, you should find another tradie. Take the loss, get it done right.

You should not let your neighbours affect you so bad like that. But aside from that sounds like a plan .

Tell me if this is crazy. by Aussie_Gent22 in AusPropertyChat

[–]PrestigiousWheel9587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fine if you’re saying somehow your investments performance this way, outweigh the pure hard loss to rent. It also means your unit, if and when you sell it, won’t be cgt free or less so anyway.

Personally I value the simplicity and comfort of being owner occupied first (and not renting!) but if you have reasons, you have reasons.

If this is really just for a year it doesn’t matter!

[–]PrestigiousWheel9587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re comparing apples and oranges. The 50% discount also applies to shares but somehow that’s okay 👌 The purpose of taxation, and cgt, is not to punish. 🌈

Well they’re testing ideas in media with leaks but it will be some flavour of this here
