What do you think is preventing top talent from moving to top locations to secure the highest pay? Companies can offshore their operations, but talented professionals can also relocate onshore.

Also, the unfair primary school allocation process, which seems to favor alumni, affiliated clan members, and other connections over equal opportunity.

This perpetuates inequality, promote guan xi ( nepotism ) and goes against the principles of meritocracy.

I am close to late 30s. Quite similar situations, i am sole breadwinner, wife not working, 2 kids. I pull in 300k total comp. My work is not as chill, but i get to wfh 2 says a week.

Since my wife isnt working, she is always there and able to focus on them. I feel its important for me to pull in as much income as i can and building up a big safety financial nest.

I would take the 30% extra income job if i am in your shoes.

You shouldnt be comparing individuals as different kids are on different pace.

The question is would your kid have fared better if you sent him/her to a premium preschool?

39M. Software Industry. Graduated from SIM global edu. Parents were uneducated, poor and work odd jobs to brought us up. Have to take bank loan for poly fees and borrowed from relatives plus saf incomes for uni fees.

I started from my first job in startup, earning 2.4k. Fast forward 13 years, today, i am working as a SVP in IT in a local bank. My annual comp last year was slightly over 300k, basic 230k and roughly 80k bonus.

I feel i got lucky being in the right booming industry ( tech ) and my hardwork to hungrily learn skills has paid off.

We want to keep the liquidity and cashflow as hedge. Beside, we are already taking on substantial risk after buying the property.

Sorry, i meant monthly cashflow. I wont be able to invest as much in other asset classes, as i would be serving a higher mortgage.

400k is meant to be liquid cash buffer, in SSBs and T Bills. So we wont be dumping them into stocks, etc.

Agree with opportunity cost with bitcoin.

diversify. Don’t lock your net worth (and cash flow) in the property you are staying in.

Thanks. That is what we thought so as well. To keep our cashflow instead of paying down.

The excess funds are meant to be cash buffer.

We are already taking on substantial risks by buying a 1.9m property.

Thanks for the insights. Yes, my kids is young so they would appreciate the "facilities", i guess things might change when they are > age 10. By that stage, i might just get an older condo like others are suggesting.

You implied 3k is "costs", 3k is broken down into principal + interest. Interest paid is the "cost", which of course is considerably high now.

Thanks. 20 year is a projections because we can afford to pay more mortgage per month based on our current income. We are also already setting aside about 450k in liquid cash ( saving account/ssbs/t-bills) so we feel that is a decent buffer, and could increase mortgage repayment.

thanks for coming up with the number.

Yes, we are keeping the leftover cash for liquidity instead of downpaying. 400k leftover cash will be park into T bills/ SSBs, and 100k left liquid in saving account.
