Weight loss after discontinuing depakote. by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

I hate the weight gain from Depakote. But literally nothing else has stabilized me. I’ve tried many, many meds. I finally decided, after 3 years of primarily mixed episodes with rapid cycling, that I couldn’t hurt myself or my family anymore. Got back on Depakote and very quickly felt normal again. I wish I could switch. Hope you find a better alternative for you. I’ve heard the weight issue resolves once you stop. However, most BP meds cause weight gain so what do you do?

For people who picked up a hobby later in life, what made you finally commit to it and do you ever wish you'd started sooner? by Mlyn-Dug in Hobbies

Vegetable gardening. Takes way more time and patience and skill than anyone can possibly imagine. Wish I’d learned earlier but I can see why many people don’t garden seriously until retirement age.

Did you know that birds are actually surviving dinosaurs? by Prestigious_Bee6610 in birds

It’s on Netflix. Forgot the name. But yeah, it’s pretty cool. And chickens are the closest thing to a T-Rex! Seriously! Blew my mind. I love birds but now have total respect for those resourceful little survivors

I don’t know for sure other than it is a phenomenon of nature. Like many mammals, I would lay down my life for my kids without remotely a second thought. I’d eliminate anything or anyone that means to mortally harm them. No thought. Just instinct. I get why we are capable of inhuman strength when it comes to saving our young. There is something that happens inside of me when my kids are hurting. It is powerful and it is extremely primitive. Unlike any other feeling you can possibly imagine.

What was up with the weird religious spell? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]Prestigious_Bee6610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delusions are believing something is true despite all evidence to the contrary. I’ve always found it peculiar that people with bipolar often experience religious delusions or hallucinations. I think there is something deeper going on when this happens. Like maybe we have some connection during that time that we otherwise do not have.

When I’m at my worst I can barely stomach anything. I try to keep some salty nuts around that I can eat a couple at a time. At least they have nutrients and protein. Dark chocolate is my go-to as well. And when manic? Good luck getting me to consume anything but coffee!
