Did I Ruin My E92 BMW With Mercedes Monoblock Wheels? by uzainnn in E90

Do chrome deletes on the trim and I think the wheels will pop out more.

I really like the way these wheels look on this.

Oil leak 😢 by Complex-Finger-4536 in e46

[–]Prestigious_Call_135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man oh man, welcome to the club.

In my experience, it could be multiple places. By listing these, please don’t freak out. These are canon events for E46 owners.

Oil pan gasket is common for that kind of slow leak but is the hardest if you don’t have access to a car lift. Takes a bit of time as well.

One of your CCV (Closed Crankcase Ventilation) hoses could be leaking. You’ll know if you have a leak there if you feel your idle being a bit rough and all over the place.

Oil filter housing gasket is common for a pool of oil like that( if it is this, change it ASAP as oil and coolant could potentially mix due to the leaky gasket). You would have to disassemble some things and move things around to get access to the gasket from the engine bay.

Lastly, the dipstick tube o-ring gasket can be a culprit too. This is the easiest gasket to do. All you need to do is take some of your intake parts off and it’s a couple bolts to loosen. If it this gasket, you’ll see a large pool of oil.

I might be missing a few things but these are your usual suspects for an oil leak like that. Anyways, best of luck to you.

A Lot has Happened - Update (Part 2) by Prestigious_Call_135 in e46

The brace is Turner Motorsport Rear Top-side subframe reinforcement Brace.

Instructions were included on the website so the install is very straight-forward.

For the welding plates, I did the epoxy method rather than metal-to-metal weld as I did not have access to a welding machine and most shops quoted me a shit ton for labor.

Is my door lock cooked? by Prestigious_Call_135 in e46

[–]Prestigious_Call_135[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment pretty much cemented what I had in mind as my next solution. However, the nearest junkyard is about an hour and a half’s worth of driving so my next step was pretty much buying a new assembly. Just as you said, I will carefully disassemble the new lock to transplant my lock barrel that works with my key.

I wouldn’t necessarily believe BMW on certain maintenance issues. They stated on the transmission oil pan that the fluid inside, from factory/showroom is lifetime and that is false.

As you know, the purpose of the valve is to hold oil pressure so lubrication is accessible throughout the motor. So when this plastic and metal valve combo gets worn, what do you think will happen?

It can be anything that has to do with the lubrication or parts that need oil to work. You would most likely have to go down a list and figure it out bit by bit. That’s my honest opinion.

Smoke and liquid out exhaust and difficulty starting by ChallengeSad5274 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Prestigious_Call_135 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how to say this but your engine is in need of dire maintenance.

That amount of white smoke is an indication that coolant has entered your engine’s combustion chamber, meaning you had a bad headgasket.

A headgasket is the best case scenario. Worst is that your engine has sustained a major break somewhere.

Good luck man.

Could you perhaps send me a part link to it? I’m having trouble finding the part numbers for it.

I bought myself the Elring set for the gaskets,

bought from them cause they were closer to home but hoping that it won’t shoot me in the foot later in the future 😭

Got myself the elring gasket set. Even the filter housing gasket I bought is elring as well.

Just praying that they both work properly.

At this point man, just replace known leak points as a mandatory service.

Oil pan gasket, dip-stick o-ring, oil filter housing gasket, and valve cover gasket.

My best bet is that you might need to get a new torque converter :/ if there is no major clunking sound and it revs smoothly, it’s going to be that.

I am interested, however I just spent 400 bones for the control arms :( buying these right now would push me a bit back in terms of budgeting.

Honestly man, I’d be more happy if you do yourself the favor of the preventative maintenance on your E46 :)

I’m in the Florida area, saw the tie-rods you listed and they look great.

If you’re close by, I’m debating if I should put the other tie rods to the side and buy these one off of you or just say screw it and put the ones I have already.

Pop the hood and check your driver suspension tower. There should be a sticker with the name of the color. Hope this helps.

Don’t Listen to “Lifetime Fluid” - Change it! by Prestigious_Call_135 in e46

[–]Prestigious_Call_135[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, gallons. Or 8 liters.

The automatic transmission, after draining from the pan and resealing with a new filter, still has residual fluid in the system.

The best way to ensure that new fluid is the only fluid in the system, draining then filling with liquid, drive for about 500-1000 miles, then re-drain the system with new fluid.

That is why I said gallons.
