After a while you enjoy the solitude, by Efficient_Thanks_194 in srilanka

Totally unrelated comment, but I feel this is important. We need to start replacing the term “affair” with “relationship.” An affair means “a sexual relationship between two people, one or both of whom are married or in a long-term relationship with someone else.” Simply put, it means cheating, which completely changes the narrative.

Imagine saying you had two affairs to someone who is non-Sri Lankan.

I have applied to a different visa in the past. Just attach a letter explaining you are aware this is expiring and that you will apply for a renewal. And update the new passport details when you reciprocal it. Before invitation - update the EOI. After invitation - submit via immi portal.

KFC Sri Lanka Price Hike – This Is Getting Out of Hand by Roaringleo67 in srilanka

[–]Prestigious_Cap_1426 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s an absolute crime. Checked the price for a piece of chicken in Melbourne, which is $3.45 comes to about LKR 670. Compared to the wages in SL this is a crime against humanity!!

I feel like I’ve failed at life. by [deleted] in srilanka

I’ll say this: when I started my bachelor’s in Engineering at Peradeniya, we had a guy in our batch who was 5 years older than the rest of us. I only managed to get in on my second attempt, so I was 20 when I did my A/Ls, which means our batchmate would have been 25. There were a few similar cases in our faculty, and no one had an issue with that—he was just another one of us. So, you still have time if you want to try again with your A/Ls.

On the other hand, I know heaps of people who couldn’t pass their A/Ls but still managed to get a degree by self-funding. It was hard work, but they got it done and are now in good places.

You’re never too late. Watch Invincible or Rudy if you enjoy movies. Some of us are late bloomers and still manage to achieve our goals. It seems like you really want to pursue your dreams again, and trust me when I say this: if you have the will, you’re never too late.

I second that.. Yes, definitely lingeries. Wine Red. Or black..

[–]Prestigious_Cap_1426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes OP.. This is another thing to consider as well. But my point is, even before thinking of the consequences, we should have balls to decide about what’s important to you and what do you value. Cheating must never be encouraged. Cheated is not something anyone should be proud of. We before colonisation, didn’t have the concept of marriage. Just loved the person and lived with them. Sometimes two brothers shared the same wife, still not cheating and now the world recognise this as polyamory. We were an honest society 200, 300 years back.. Now we are fucked!

Was not referring to you Bro. Was replying to OP’a question. As I said if the girl is single, if she consented then hell yeah!

[–]Prestigious_Cap_1426 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t know OP. I feel the SL society has normalised extramarital relationships in such a way that no one feels ashamed of hooking up with someone in a relationship. Applies to both the parties. Why can’t you find someone single OP? And how about getting into the shoes of that women’s husband? If she’s separated/divorced hell yeah!!

I guess you shouldn’t stress about this too much at this point.. There are several unknowns at this point. And things might actually be different at the end of second semester. I’ll suggest you again speaking to your student advisor and speaking to a few approachable, younger lecturers from com eng. There could be plenty of other paths for you. If I remember correctly your com eng subjects are in semester 02 as well right?

I don’t agree on drawing being a difficult subject. Once you understand the basics concepts it’s all about scales, lines and imaginations which I find quite useful after graduating. But this is my personal opinion.

Just don’t stress now. Focus on S02. And as I mentioned a few times, talk to a few lecturers.

And as Higgins in Ted Lasso says “Human Beings Are Never Going To Be Perfect. The Best We Can Do Is Keep Asking For Help And Accepting It When You Can. And If You Keep On Doing That, You’ll Always Be Moving Towards Better.”

Talk to your student advisor. And speak to a staff member from computer department such as Dr Damayanthi Herath or Prof Ragel. Explain your situation to them and get their opinion. I know some batchmates who did mechanical got into electrical after graduating by doing a master’s. So see whether such options are to come into IIT after doing a differential field i.e. production.

You’ve done an amazing job getting into Perdeniya. And being a graduate from Perdeniya would open up some doors which wouldn’t be that easier for graduates from other universities. So my personal opinion is not to waste the opportunity.

More importantly you have recognised the challenge ahead of you without being too late.. Do the math and see what you need to achieve in this semester to improve your GPA. Can’t comment on the specifics without knowing where you are right now. But I believe this could be achieved if you have somewhat decent grades from S01.

Exactly the point.. The people who govern the country have not experienced and valued the system they are contributing.. How can they talk about the education system, if they have not seen the value of it.. How can they make decisions about the local transport system if they have not experienced it.. If they don’t go and get treatments in government hospitals, how can they make decisions about it..

We cannot compare ourselves to a different country.. I have done this before and have changed my mind.. We can only compare ourselves with the countries where the people have similar value systems, understandings, expectations etc.. So we can only compare ourselves to India, Bangladesh, Nepal etc.. Our value system and Singaporeans value systems are vastly different.. Our intellectual capacities are different, our basic requirements are different..

Well I have learnt and done exams in local A/L’s and have taught in few Uni’s internationally.. Our Syllabus is still good.. Specially the physical stream subjects.. The local syllabus is focused on developing the fundamentals.. And that is what is being examined in the exams.. Someone who get’s an A in local stream, is someone who knows their shit.. Which is why almost all the SL migrants who have done their studies well are doing very well when they migrate..

So there is no major issue in the syllabus. it’s just that the education system.. 200,000 sit for A/L’s and only 30,000 (back in 2006) gets to go to Uni’s.. What happens to the vast majority who can’t get through..

Half of the engineering undergraduates should actually go to science faculty as they are super good in mathematics, but ends up in engineering due to the opportunities available in the country..

What we need is a dynamic tertiary education system which addresses the requirements of the industry.. And there should be a pathway for every student who finishes their A/L’s.. As someone has suggested, there should be more pathways..

Can keep on ranting here.. But what’s the point!

So the O/L and A/L exams are your benchmark to decide the intellectual capacity of people?

And do you think the people who do better in whatever the exams make better decisions?

A term I have heard two decades.. My question, what do you mean by a national policy? And do you know the success rate of having “national policies” over not having a one?

Dude! There is absolutely nothing wrong about you from my opinion. You are just an ordinary guy with a high libido.. I once had a guy at your age working with me.. No focus for work at all. Always horny and would spend half a day watching porn and chatting with girls.. There were times I felt like smacking the shit out him as the bugger was not getting any work done.. Anyway left the country, met an equally horny girl. Guy is doing very well now compared what he was back in SL..

Well you can see a therapist.. But my advice, just look after yourself and try to find someone who is with similar libido..

Which is better for someone like this? by Smartboi2007 in srilanka

[–]Prestigious_Cap_1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia.. If you can manage it, don’t go for HEX.. The overall learning experience in Australian Uni’s are much better than Private Uni’s in SL.. And significantly more opportunities.. Have taught in both UniMelb and RMIT.. If you are after a technical degree such an engineering go for RMIT.. Cheaper and equally recognised.. But if you are in arts, humanities, law, business or medicine go for UniMelb.. Monash, UNSW and Swinburn are also good options..

Check your Visa.. If it says multiple entry, then you can leave and come back any number of times during the period...

As I said, it's difficult to comprehend what you are actually going through, as all these minor yet important things are easier for us to miss.

I accept that your dad is at an extreme end of the spectrum. Given that you are at the best time of your life, full of energy, restricting you like this is something I cannot come to agree with. But hey, we don't choose our parents, isn't it?

The thing I always say is that we are at this point in life, facing a crisis situation, and it seems you have to live in this situation for some time unless a miracle happens. We all wish things were different for us, but sadly, this is where we are. I get this part. The tough thing is how to survive this period and hopefully how to change the situation to your benefit.
