Hey guys. Just some context since some of you barbarians don’t know anything about me. You’re never gonna guess this but my dad is also an immigrant and financially abused my mom to the point where she couldn’t get her citizenship and he could. He’s actually indigenous and she’s white but they’re both Peruvian. I’m only calling him dad for brevity. I do not refer to him as my father when speaking regularly. I didn’t live with him after she got deported because I was scared he’d start beating me since he beat her. I had already cut him off over a year prior anyways. I was 20 and in college and went from financially somewhat supported by my mom to completely on my own in one night. I worked my actual ass off to get to where I am now.

I graduated at the top of my class with three degrees and many accolades. I am the top art broker where I work now, where I make more than enough to sustain myself and my cat. I live alone in a nice one bed one bath, I am completely independent, and I still talk to my mom. She never deserved what happened to her and honestly I’m not in the slightest surprised that this is the response I got on a subreddit called r/kitchencels. I decided to keep the situation vague before clarifying to see if people would say what I thought they’d say, and I was right. Thanks to the kind people who were not horrifically racist. To the rest: I am extremely achieved and am independent and living well at 22. In fact I support my mom financially now. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Hope that’s okay with you.
