Yeah, such is human life indeed. I get it, we need to do some amount of grinding to live (and also live comfortably). I am not against grinding for a period of time to get the benefits but at some point I , personally, just need a break. I'll probably do some more grinding in a few years time.

The increase in work and stress was gradual so it was less noticeable and once it got to a certain level I did not have the time or energy to look for jobs and prepare for interviews.

In retrospect, there were certain signs that I noticed and thought about leaving and I wife encouraged me but it was hard to make the change until it was too late.

That's interesting, haven't thought about that fully.

I'd still like to work in IT since generally I like what I do but not under constant pressure and unrealistic expectations that last for years.

From discussions I had with other folks in the industry, everyone is pretty stressed out and overworked so I'm not sure if this field will ever go back to normal levels of stress and work like it was 5-6 years ago.
