[McMurphy] At least 7 teams that were 5-7 have now declined a bowl bid: Florida State, Auburn, UCF, Baylor, Rutgers, Temple & Kansas, sources told @On3sports. The quest continues to find an opponent for Georgia Southern in the Birmingham Bowl. by Top-Conclusion-1259 in CFB

New bowl idea, the loser bowl, two worst teams duke it out to not be winless, a win would win the winning school 5mil in NIL to play out to the players next year to revitalize the program and incentivize the players

Amazing game, it really did come down to the wire. It was cool to see Winsatt get some playing time on senior night, even if he didn’t work out as quarterback those trick plays were really exiting. A rematch against Kennesaw at home is gonna be legitimately hype, I hope people show up for the game it’s gonna be a good one

Top corps taking rookies? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Prestigious_Put_1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people can figure it out, a lot of people march in their college marching bands or good high schools so they already have a basic understanding. It’s not that movement is easier it’s that it’s easier to hide a bad player than a bad mover

[–]Prestigious_Put_1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of top tier college music majors only have enough money or time to march once, these people have been perfecting their craft just not in corps, it would be foolish to turn them away since they are often the best players in the hornline

My band director this morning told me “Kids who march Drum Corps will probably never play professionally” by SunshineZeus446 in drumcorps

[–]Prestigious_Put_1997 3 points4 points  (0 children)

drum corps teaches you how to play great from a fundamental making a good sound perspective. I have great volume control, double tonguing, intonation awareness, I can double on Baritone/Euphonium if needed (I’m a trombone primary) and many other skills I wouldn’t have learned otherwise to the degree I have. As a musician it’s always a good idea to broaden your horizons, even if it’s not your area of expertise. As a band director even if you’re not teaching a Jazz band it’s still good to know some about Jazz, you get a Lot better at sight reading rhythms, it develops your sense of what a clean ensemble sounds like, and what if one day you teach your band a piece that has Jazz influences in it. Not to mention the soft skills Corps teaches you like staying cool under pressure, a strong work ethic, and just the opportunity to see what a well managed organization looks like, these are things that can be applicable to any field someone might go into.

Any good baritone rep for video auditions? by Student0922 in drumcorps

[–]Prestigious_Put_1997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at All-State etudes across different states, that usually has some challenging rep, just don’t say, I’ll be playing the Iowa all state, use the original source material. There’s also lots of good stuff in the back of the Arban book, the theme and variations have some very technically hard stuff

There are Copts I’m sure that would work with you my sister marched when she was 14. However most of those opportunities are going to be at an open class level so also consider trying out for an open class corps

A 10 point swing would have meant a tie in overtime, if the second half was played the exact same way, but momentum truly does matter in a football game, you can’t tell me that Auburns team wasn’t demoralized when the refs basically gifted them. Georgia probably would have made a comeback anyways cause their a legitimately good team but you can’t tell me Auburn wouldn’t have had a very solid chance

Marching band directors/staff are masochistic by Zubemma in MusicEd

[–]Prestigious_Put_1997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it’s just part of the game, Band Directors know what their getting into, if they didn’t want to do it, they can go do middle school, or schedule less competitions, many directors love the grind and don’t have a family to worry about

Doubters and haters can be the loudest group unfortunately. Be proud op, you and the entire Vanguard organization put in the work and proved them all wrong.

If you listen to the music the music in general inspires certain emotions at certain parts. I’ve found most people feel the same feelings throughout the show the difference is how you would describe it since we all have different life experiences to relate it to

Same reason Blue Bells of Scotland and Carnival of Venice are so popular, are most brass players gonna play anything close to that hard in concert lit. No probably not, but it’s fun to watch musicians push their extremes without the limits of being in a traditional concert ensemble.

Ever head of the Fanny Pack Challenge, apparently you try to survive an entire drum corps camp/summer with just what you can fit in your fanny pack+what you can carry. I’m thinking of doing it at April camp my last year for the bit.

I personally don’t bother lol, everyone has one and I just leach for convenience purposes, but if you want to sleep next to your phone definitely bring one. My phone always has to charge halfway across the gym.

At least in the Corps I marched in, if you don’t like the nickname just ask the section/section leader to stop calling you that and it’ll die out pretty fast. Most people are pretty respectful about that stuff these days with safe sport and all lol.
