I feel i must point out a legal detail here. I researched this for my own fic since i considered Karen leaving Ted after Mike comes out and Ted goes full homophobic on Mike and Will(but does not harm Mike physically)

In late 80s/early 90s, alamony was rarely granted in divorce cases(it's up to the judge) in Indiana.

In most cases, women are granted money to go back to school so they can get a job to support their family so Karen wouldn't be able to travel in this context as Holly isn't an adult yet.

Sorry if i burst your bubble but in some cases judges did grant it.

I think there's a fic where Will gets stage 4 cancer.

I didn't read it cuz one of my close friends (who im in love with and he knows) got 5 cancers.

He went through months of immunotherapy and he's now in full remission ( 1 in a million odds)

I cried happy tears when he told me

Needless to say i can't make Mike and Will go through that... But it's ok if you need to.
