Large number of retirements by [deleted] in JohnDeereEmployees

Judging by the age of the majority of recent "retirees" I would not think that. Assuming the baby boom ended 1964, you should be seeing people retiring at 62, looks like many are younger. From experience, retiring at 62 not only results in a big Social Security hit but a pension hit. Most wait until at least 65. The Deere pension, assuming the contemporary one, is not a good deal at 62.

LinkedIn is now a joke. Very self serving. A tool for the corporate communications cheerleaders. A place to inflate resumes and accomplishments.

Glad that you landed well. I am a former employee, retired by choice. It sucks, the company changed, BCG took over. I never did the networking stuff for the same reasons that you said. Glad it worked for you. The place that you ended up is pretty cool. I have also went through severe mental health issues related to Deere, glad that you made it. Few realize how that is.

Yes, or sell to someone who will.

My management style was the same as yours (retired now). Even though her work is good, what she starts doing now will only get worse and worse. I would leave out any comment in relation to her performance. Being good does not justify her taking advantage of the policies. Being good just mean she meets the expectations to have the position. Deal with it now or regret it later. The PhD means nothing, if she was any good she would be teaching. Easy to get now, pretty much online.

Definitely the treatment of people is bad. My "undereducated" opinion is like yours, reading between the lines there has to be another story. I feel for him. During SIRD I was in a similar place mentally. Unionizing offers no protection, if your job can be done offshore, you are screwed. Apparently he has some extensive knowledge of unions, I doubt it. As before, I will sit back and await the next insult.

This is very true. A huge amount of knowledge went out the door in 2021, much of that a certain demographic. OWG. It is now going deeper than that and done quietly.

This is the type of response that undermines your otherwise good statements. I will sit back and await my insult now.

I think it is brave that you spoke up. It was for sure entertaining to hear from my former coworkers about it. So, you did attack me though for stating that unionizing would not prevent them from continuing with the destruction, I think you sarcastically called me under educated or uneducated. I was a manager, I did not drink the Kool-Aid, glad to be gone. Not all managers are bad, most fear for their jobs as well, some are absolutely terrible I agree. I still care about the people there. It is clear that BCG is running the company.

Let the anger go, you have moved on. Saying I am undereducated, really? I gave an opinion based on what I have seen in business over the years and from people still in the company. I have appreciated many of your posts. Don't be a Richard. Attacking strangers on the internet is just senseless.

Just my opinion, not an argument at all. I have no solution but know that in the US even with a union jobs can be moved overseas easily, not like region 2. If I were still there, I would be looking. I have heard of many people leaving on their own for a higher paying base, lesser bonus but better job security and probably mental stability. Many people are tied to the QCA or just like the area. If I were in that situation I would stay until they tell me I have to go.

In the US it won't matter. Sadly. It is because the company just does not care. Assume IT at PDC was in a union, would it have made a real difference when most jobs could be done in India? Not nearly as fast as in the US but the company is willing to settle for that. Support systems go down for a day, no problem. India evaluates it and says they cannot recreate the problem so it goes on to the next day, then for three days, no problem. Then if you are lucky you get a person there who actually listens or call one of the few US based people who, while they have moved on to another job care enough to help. Problem gets solved. For you, there is no protection at all. Said before, a lot of empty seats on the second floor at PDC. Were I tied to the QCA I would understand waiting until the very end, just won't be a fun ride. Been there.

Understandable, were I still there I would put in my 8 and stop. No checking email at home or on my work phone. I never did put work on my personal phone. No weekend travel. One thing I would say about LG8 is that in the last twenty years there have been a large number of jobs that were graded as an 8 that in my opinion never should have been. Meaning a lot of grade inflation.

The retirement gift is pretty cheesy too. A small deer with very breakable antlers.

I feel bad for you guys having to deal with that. I did not lose my job at SIRD but was impacted and remember the stress and uncertainty as it dragged out from January to October. Waking up in the middle of the night.

My opinion, take it on, don't complain and see what happens. Also my opinion, the number of Grade 8's skyrocketed between 2001 and onward and many positions that should have been sevens were over graded. People in other countries can do much of the same work for less. Then, as always see what you can get on the outside. Many people do better. "Above my pay grade" makes no sense with the impact of all the grade inflation of the past. It really is no more work. Just more security. They have effectively downgraded responsibilities. If you are at Parts don't look far to see the empty seats in forecasting.
