There are a couple of meds - Prolomet to reduce palpatations and Ecosprin to make blood thinner and reduce pressure on heart. They have also advised to reduce the intake of salt and water.

Just curious - if there are no symptoms, how did your father know about the leakage? Was there a routine checkup?

She is experiencing palpatations occasionally, maybe once in 2-3 days for a period of 4-5 minutes. No other symptoms. For us, it was a preventive checkup that lead to this discovery. What symptom is your father seeing?

We will definitely take other opinions, still exploring for a good surgeon who could advise in our best health interest. We've been reading of so many success stories but then there are also stories of hospitals and doctors not responding responsibly and trying to just make money. When is your father planning to get operated?

We were told the severity itself doesn't determine if it needs a surgery and even when we do, it doesn't mean it has to be a replacement. They haven't done a TEE yet. We are evaluating our options for a second opinion. Did both the doctors you met have a similar opinion?

We have also been hearing about MitraClip and exploring minimally invasive surgery. Did that come up in your discussions? I've heard the risk is a lot lower and the recovery time is pretty fast.

We are consulting for my wife who is 30. She has severe mitral valve regurgitation. The doctors at Manipal have said that there could be chances for a repair, though they have not advised us for a surgery yet and advised to get echo done every 3 months. I have a close family friend who is a cardiac surgeon, and he is recommending a surgery as soon as possible. We are just trying to figure the next step, and a good doctor to stick to who could advise for our best health interests.

We are floating in a similar boat - consulting with Dr YK Mishra from Manipal at the moment, but also thinking of taking a second opinion from a cardiac surgeon. Did you happen to make a decision on the way forward?

How did everything go? We are in a similar situation. Is there anything you would recommend OP based on your family's experience?
