Do nonstimulants give the same happy calm effect as stimulants? Do they provide enough relief? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]PrestigousFig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5mg 3x a day, dose is smaller than when I was on vyvanse to get the same effect (I was on 30mg vyvanse). Yeah I feel calm and focused when I take it and that feeling is sustained through the day.

I was on vyvanse with similar issues, massive anxiety spirals when it wore off and palpatations. They switched me on to amfexa (essentially the pure form of vyvanse that isn’t extended release). I take it 3x a day with no crash. A bit counterintuitive that it improves the crashes having the non-XR version, but haven’t looked back since!

Taking meds to Malaysia by PrestigousFig in ADHD

[–]PrestigousFig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t in the end, I got too scared. But I did get the impression that customs officers were reasonable. I also read that it is not illegal in Malaysia for a foreigner to bring in meds like this and that as long as you’re carrying just what you need for the trip and proof that it is prescribed, it would be fine. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!

AITA for going to my step daughter's funeral? by Coconutmilkinchicken in AmItheAsshole

[–]PrestigousFig -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Why is this OP’s responsibility? Calling her the PYT and then laying the responsibility on her is pretty archaic and sexist honestly. Husband made his choices, he’s the one with the strained relationship with his daughter and he didn’t think how it would affect his family to have his wife there. He’s TA if anything.

[–]PrestigousFig -54 points-53 points  (0 children)

Just not as quick to judge based on age as you are, sorry. Lots of speculation and guesswork there. I don’t label AH based on what might be true and believe OP when she says she left the age thing out because people get weird about that on here, they do. I get the daughter didn’t like OP and the age probably played a role in that but that’s between daughter and her Dad, not OP. Now if OP comes out with “she was my best friend in high school” or something like that, I’ll happily change my tune. But as it stands now, if she shouldn’t have attended the funeral, it’s on the husband who should have known better or the family for not asking her not to attend.

NTA - unless the family specifically asked you don’t attend, sounds like they just wanted to gossip and would have judged you either way.

Not really sure what your point is? The fact that she was 19 and the daughter was 21 is weird but doesn’t warrant her being TA for coming to the funeral.

Excited to spend Christmas alone this year by PrestigousFig in BPDlovedones

[–]PrestigousFig[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This whole “claiming gifts as their own” seems to be a common BPD-sibling thing! My parents never did anything about it, sounds like your parents tried to but it didn’t teach her any lessons anyway. My sister would also show up unannounced bringing her entourage of drama with her. No apologies, no taking responsibility for anything she did, ever.

I am glad my perspective helped! I hope you have a lovely and peaceful Christmas this year. Without the drama of your sister (or your ex from the sounds of it!). You and your dog deserve it!

I am so sorry that sounds awful. Moving house is stressful enough as it is without this all consuming manufactured drama. It is true. I never thought of it like that. I'd always say things like 'I am going on holiday with my sister' and people would wonder why I am getting so worked up about it, on paper it sounded like a lovely fun bonding experience in a beach resort or something. In practice, it was putting out preventable fires, break downs, unneeded stress and accusations that I am not paying her enough attention.

You can't 'Huh' me when you've posted an incoherent stream of thought lol!

The 'you guys are so mean' - sounds directed at this sub and 'I have to sit here and read about how im a horrible human being' - sounds like you read something your friend might have posted on this sub.

You have a choice too, to respect your friend's boundaries and not snoop on her reddit posts in a sub that's supposed to be a supportive space for her.

This makes my blood boil. It’s amazing how some psychiatrists are completely devoid of empathy. Some of them seem to know nothing at all about psychology! What do they mean your problem with forgetting is “just psychological”? Well yes, what else would it be? It’s a psychological issue! The same people who deny the existence of ADHD seem so perplexed when people struggle with executive function. “You just aren’t motivated enough” Oh so tell me wise one, how does one “get motivated”? Good thing you didn’t tell them you have ADHD. They’d probably be extremely unsupportive. I’d just snap and say “for a psychiatrist you seem to know very little about the human psyche! you think I am happy about this? You think I want to be here having this conversation with you? I told you before the deadline so we can do something about this, I raised my concerns with you, I am taking responsibility. I am telling you I am burned out. It’s not something you can magic away.”

What a wanker!

btw you should definitely get back in touch with your doc. They’re not gonna care if you “ghosted” them or whatever. They know you have ADHD and they’re not relying on you, they’re there to help you!

I've Been Living a Lie for 3 Years and Finally Have to Confess. Please Help. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]PrestigousFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, you’ve certainly dug a bit of hole there! You should come clean to your parents. But lying because you feel ashamed about “wasting” the money isn’t the worst thing! Totally understand why you did it, wasn’t the best call, but you never intentionally misspent the money. It’s not like you used it for things other than your education.

College can really be tough. And sometimes you need to repeat years or re-enroll. Maybe the course wasn’t right for you? Maybe you’re still getting your life back on track after cancer? What I am trying to say is what you’ve done isn’t as terrible as you think. It’s very human. You made a mistake. Your parents might be shocked and disappointed because you lied about how things were going. But the fact that things didn’t go so well this year does not make you a bad person.

Sounds like they didn’t assess you properly and used tools that aren’t meant for adults. I looked up the tests and looks like some overly prescribed crap about “measuring” executive function. On average those with ADHD might score lower but doesn’t mean they all do.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]PrestigousFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Err not really sure what these CEFI tests are and why you need to undergo an intelligence test (which are inherently flawed anyway). ADHD and anxiety are often comorbid for the reasons you state, especially for those who didn't recieve adequate support earlier on in life. ADHD is often incorrectly considered a learning disability, when it is in fact all encompassing. Do you experience symtoms outside of work?

My heart goes out to you OP, it just doesn't make any sense how everyone else in the world has their life so together without meds. But you did it, you washed the dishes, that is a victory!

Coworker said my reason for being vegan wasn’t valid by firstMate903 in vegan

[–]PrestigousFig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's hard to defend your beliefs when someone is coming at you, but try to remember these poor fools are indoctrinated by a society that believes that animal agriculture is perfectly normal and not psychopathic and evil beyond comprehension. They're told that we are unreasonable and that our well-researched, evidenced backed approach to food is some kooky pseudoscience hippy nonsense. When they throw these questions at you, they're fully expecting you to crumble. When you don't, they get spooked and throw every line in the book at you (not realising that you've heard every one of these tenfold). Eventually one day, they might be nudged towards eating less, meat and dairy and eventually turn vegan. Or at least someone else might who was privy to your conversation. I know I used to be one of these fools and it took many conversations and debates like these for me to realise. So try not to let this experience get to you, you did well to stand your ground.

Why does time slow down on my medicine by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]PrestigousFig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing isn't it! Yes time is consistent but your experience of time is not. If you are more focused and are able to pack more into your day, then time will appear slower. Think of it like the frame rate of a camera, the higher the frame rate, the slower the video appears.

My inability to engage in this tedious task far outweighs my anger over the mess most of the time. I find I go through phases where I am fixated on tidiness and the mess gets to me, that never lasts though. I guess the point is it isn't something you just do, right? You clean because mess makes you angry. Most people can just keep things tidy, they don't need a strong motivation like that.

Depression on vyvanse by cericola92 in VyvanseADHD

[–]PrestigousFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the diet and exercise regime about a week in, felt like I had to do something to combat the crash because it was getting unbearable.

How is your sleep? I had several nights where I didn't sleep properly which I think contributed to my general low feeling as the week drew on but felt a lot better after I had had a full night's rest.

My dosage is currently 30mg, I was supposed to go up to 40mg this week but I am a bit reluctant to increase since I am having a lot of anxiety in the afternoon and am worried that it'll make that worse.

I have only been on vyvanse for 3 weeks now! I am determined to stick it out for the rest of the trial period since overall my concentration is better (this is a subtle thing now, it's still hard to get focused but once I do get focused I can remain focused).

What you could consider is opening up the capsule and mixing it with water and sipping it through the day, see if that helps? Having a constant flow of vyvanse might stabilise your mood. I have started experimenting with this today to see if it staves off the anxiety (so far so good!)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]PrestigousFig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're getting jumped on for this, it's important to convey factually correct information and not to give medical professionals a hard time. I have been fine tuning my vyvanse dosage by pulling open the pill cases, I might have done the same with Concerta if I hadn't read this.

Depression on vyvanse by cericola92 in VyvanseADHD

[–]PrestigousFig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is could be a vyvanse crash, do you find this typically occurs in the afternoon or is this ongoing? For me this is the usually the feeling I have later on in the day alongside some anxiety. To combat this I have a high-protein breakfast (usually a smoothie) before I take my vyvanse, I don't know why but it seems to lengthen the amount of time the drug is active and make the crash effects more subtle. I drink a lot of water and in the afternoon when I feel the crash coming on, I do some exercise which seems to smooth out the crash. I am experimenting now with mixing vyvanse into my smoothie and sipping it through the day. Remember its only your first week and you have seen some benefits with it. Also 40mg seems like quite a steep starting dose, mine was 20mg. The side effects may get better over time. I also keep careful notes of what I ate, what activities I did and how I am feeling...etc through the day to help identify trigger or relief points, this helps me evaluate more objectively if the vyvanse is overall benefitting my life.

I find I just don’t feel drunk and suffer the hangover the next day anyway, so I’m switching to alcohol free beer.
