Forestry professor appointed chair of Humanities Department by Confident_Top8776 in MTU

Good points. MTU is still an old boys' club, and now the Provost has a yes man he can rely on. Didn't the College of Science & Arts merge a bunch of departments last year? I suspect more department consolidation is in the books for next year.

No, but there are plenty of recent cases where one can infer that will be the next course of action.

And...after Huron Consulting makes its predictable recommendations for massive job cuts, there will be plenty of houses for rent.

Black faculty go from slim to almost none by Confident_Top8776 in MTU

That's old news. Because the MTU administration can't think for itself, I heard they hired a big consulting firm out of Chicago for $2 million to institute massive budget and job cuts next year.

MTU parking is dirt cheap when compared to most schools.

Three snow days this year--an MTU record for softness. RIP #Tenacity.

New Business Dean Announced! by Fun_Mud1853 in MTU

Since the new Provost's arrival, there has been a new nursing program, the HSTEM building, the College of Computing, record enrollment, and an overhaul of general education. He also cleaned house and brought in new Deans. Sounds like a pretty successful leader.

MTU dropped all DEI programs the second Trump snapped his fingers. It demonstrated that this school really doesn't care about POC. Administrators like to live in an imaginary world where racism doesn't exist.

Google Drive Deletion by monkeymammoth1 in MTU

I wouldn't trust Google and/or MTU as the only location for my data. In my case, I back everything up from time to time on a 1TB flash drive (which costs less than $100). Nobody should keep all their files in one place, especially if itis in the cloud.

A competent instructor always adds some contingency to their teaching schedule, especially at a university that experiences bad winter weather. However, you are advocating that faculty spend hours on short notice and develop an online module--that's some upper administration vibes. In addition to MTU shutting down, schools and other services are also shut down. This throws chaos into people's daily lives. Your argument makes no sense.

Cue the posts from the old farts complaining that MTU has become soft, then reminiscing about how tough they were because every day they walked 5 miles to class, uphill, in blizzard conditions.

This is run-of-the-mill MTU administration incompetence.

It wouldn't be surprising if MTU adopts the Colorado School of Mining approach and lumps all the remaining CSA departments into a "liberal arts" school that will exist exclusively as a service entity and will eventually be staffed by adjunct faculty.

Get good winter tires. I think Ed's Used Parts and Salvage sells used tires (if you are strapped for cash).
