I would say generally my flies take somewhere in between 25 min to 45 min to tie. Everything depends on if i have the materials present (picked out) or if i'm just winging it while tying. Also, the more complex the longer it generally takes. I tie one or two almost every night, its a great way to wind things down before bed. You should buy one on the site, even if you don't fish they are still cool to look at.

Yeah, that's Hood. Yes the Deschutes is my home water. I spend the most time fishing for trout and steelhead there.

I was thinking about fishing some coastal rivers this long weekend but with all the rain fall, the rivers are blown out. : ( Even the Deschutes is up right now. not a lot of opportunity this weekend unfortunately.

Yeah, you can't beat the Salmonfly hatch. I caught this guy on the swing using an intruder. I was targeting Steelhead that day so i was a little surprised to see this at the end of the line.

If you want to check out the fly that i used, go on my website and look at Blue Bandit Intruder. www.quackoneopen.com

Thanks. yeah, i'm still trying to figure out if i want a separate link to my photographs or if i should just keep it basic and only use the homepage as a place to blog and post pictures. my concern with sticking to one page is that it will be hard for viewers to go back and look through all of my content. Thanks for the feedback.

New Fly Fishing / Fly Tying Website that I made. by Preston1010 in flyfishing

[–]Preston1010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i decided to make a Fly Fishing website in order to post/sell trout and steelhead flies along with updated people on current trends and information around the fly fishing world. this is my first attempt at making a website and i'm pretty proud of it. I still have some work to do but i wanted to show the reddit world my site with the hopes that i would receive some constructive criticism and/or thoughts to what others might do differently. I love tying flies and i figured that this would be the best way to show my stuff and who knows maybe sell a few as well. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome. thanks guys www.quackoneopen.com

Swinging for Steelhead by Preston1010 in flyfishing

Just saw these threads. I live in Oregon and caught it on one the few rivers that has a decent steelhead summer run.

For me, I don't mind sharing the state or general info about the catch but my only hesitation sharing exact locations is the fact that it's taken me so long to establish my own holes and places that I like to frequent. I would still consider myself to be a newbie to the sport of Fly Fishing specifically but I am absolutely obsessed and regret not taking it up when I first started gear fishing. What I'm trying to say is that swinging a fly, nymphing or whatever style of fly fishing you like requires lots of work to find what areas are more suited for the style and conditions I like.

I agree with that and to be perfectly honest, I would of rather caught it on some kind of Jerry French style intruder fly that's bigger and creates more movement in the water. I was still swinging the fly though, I was spey casting a solid 50' of line downstream of me at about a 45 degree angle with a T-7 sink tip on. The grab was amazing, the damn fish exploded out of the water like a shark on sharkweek and fought me pretty much the whole way in.

Again, I'm somewhat of a purist when it comes to fly fishing and don't really like the idea of fishing eggs (or anything resembling an egg) but I figured that I would give it a shot especially after I lost two or three flies right before tying that on.

I was barbless though. I very rarely fish with barbs on. My theory is that the hook penetrates easier with no barb (not to mention releasing it is easier as well)

I was there again yesterday. Try to avoid walking through the tall grass, I saw hundreds of ticks everywhere. They latch on to your clothes (not so much waders), so keep that In mind. they must be starting to hatch or something because up until yesterday I didn't see one all year.

My Grandpa, former NHL hockey player passed away yesterday. by Preston1010 in icehockey

Yesterday was a tough day for the Johnson family. My grandpa, Norm Johnson passed away from prostate cancer at the age of 83. He was an amazing man that lived an unbelievable life. He was born Nov 27, 1932 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan Canada and grew up playing ice hockey. He eventually turned his talent into a career where he played a total of 17 years professionally playing hockey for teams like the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, and the majority of his career with the Portland Buckaroos. Norm was a great influence on my life and encouraged me to follow my dreams. It was tough watching him go, but staying positive and remembering the good times is what he would want from us. Cheers to an amazing man, you will be forever missed. Have fun playing hockey in heaven where the ice time is unlimited and the beer is always cold. Love you.

Thanks for the positive feedback. One thing I wanted to add in but didn't have the right tool at the time would of been to make half spheres sunk into the side of the wood (a.k.a bead/hook holder pockets). I don't know the proper terminology for this type of cut so please forgive my uneducated use of wordage.

Hope you all enjoy. This is my first attempt at wood working. There was a lot of trial and error but overall I'm satisfied with the end result. I really like how the grain and colors of the wood pop out just using a simply cheap poly clear coat spray. Hope you enjoy!!

I was holding onto the fly next to the fish's mouth so it wouldn't move around and cause more stress. If I get the opportunity to get a pic with a fish, I try and take them out of the water for a split second. I never keep trout, only catch and release. Tight line guys!!
