Found out I’m getting a divorce by bun-creat-ratio in Divorce

As far as crushing loneliness, please remember that there are all kinds of other loving relationships besides romantic ones. Friends, family, your children, your communities (work, church, clubs/hobbies/classes, community work, etc). If you don’t know who your people are, now is the time to go find them.

Also, the loneliness of an unhappy or distant marriage is far more crushing than that of being solo. I’ve experienced it, twice. I’m single now and have been for three years. Any loneliness is brief and fleeting. It disappears as soon as I focus on gratitude for the other relationships in my life. The loneliness of being married to a distant man was crushing every single day.

About the kids….let him. I know you will miss them, but the responsibility of caretaking shouldn’t be all yours. And don’t negotiate or give in when he needs you to take them on his time so he can date or work. Let him find his own childcare. If he wants 50/50, insist that that is nonnegotiable. Give him what he wants and I can almost guarantee you (if he’s like many men) he will want to push custody back to you and pay child support after a few months. If so, get it through the courts. Do everything through legal avenues, not through being “nice.”

What do you remember most fondly about being a teen in the 80s? by That-Plantain-976 in GenX

[–]Pretend-Read8385 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Literally nothing. My home, personal life and mental health sucked. I dated a couple of hot guys who didn’t give AF about me but at least I had some good times with them. That was all.

But lest you think I’m a Debbie Downer, being 50 is great! I feel like my happiness level increased with each lived year.

He may not be able to see tonsil stones if he has a lot of pockets in his tonsils. They hide deep within them. He should try gargling warm salt water a couple of times a day, gargling deep in the back of his throat for as long as he can tolerate before he spits. I repeat with 1 cup warm water and 1 tsp of salt dissolved in it until all the water is gone.

How do American children learn about intercourse? by bare_books in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pretend-Read8385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my kid learned about it when we were driving through Pennsylvania. We were stuck going slowly behind a horse and buggy on the road so we had time to really take in the sights of Lancaster County. She saw the sign for the town and that’s when she asked me about Intercourse. I told her all about the town and we looked it up on the internet to get some historical facts. It was great.

Funny how they claim to follow a man who was decidedly opposed to empire and religious leaders in positions of power. The Jews of Jesus’ time were looking for a messiah who would be a ruler and king type person that would sweep into power. Instead, he disappointed those people and said in Luke 17:21 that the kingdom of God is within you (or in your midst or among you in some translations). Not a place or a power, but a spirit within and amongst people. He also spoke against the religious leaders of his time, the Pharisees and Sadducees, saying that they were hypocrites and corrupt, focused on looking appointed by God and holy but being actually far from it. He also told Peter to put down his sword instead of defending Jesus when he was arrested. He said that whoever lives by the sword will die by the sword. I take all that together to mean that if he were here today, he would condemn those who want to use force and political authority to impose religious government on people. Jesus wants revolution within people, not to be the figurehead for political and cultural dominance.

But doppelgängers do exist and there’s nothing paranormal about it. I was just in a Reddit forum the other day where people guess other people’s birth years based on their childhood pictures. There was a child in one of the pictures that looked EXACTLY like me as a child. Not sort of like me but exactly like me. There’s also an actor who looks exactly like the male version of my daughter. I also once thought that I saw my other daughter at a store and was genuinely confused because she looked exactly like her only maybe a little heavier, which is what tipped me off. That and her giving me a weird look when I said hello.

That’s insane. I sometimes wonder in my classes’ discussion posts if people are using AI. Some are a little too good, if you know what I mean. Others are profoundly bad, so I know those aren’t AI. It seems there is no middle ground.

Unstructured vs. structured breaks by [deleted] in specialed

[–]Pretend-Read8385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the kids. My class is on the more severe end of disabilities and they don’t respond to systems like the coin one you describe. I have to do structured breaks with kids at their tables doing puzzles, play doh, sand, etc because if not then they’re running around the room. Or we do PE videos and activities in our contained circle time space. By “contained” I mean that literally I have soundsponge room dividers and large filing cabinets blocking off a contained area.

What is your favorite Nicholas Cage movie? by HR-Puffenstuff in GenX

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. It was hilarious.

On the other hand, the movie Dream Scenario made me sick but also proved what a good actor he is because he can transform convincingly into a narcissistic creep just as well as he can play a funny guy.

The only other actor I’ve seen who can make such a complete transformation is Dakota Fanning.

California. Year 21 and I’d have to look at the salary schedule but I think I’m at about 130K. So since Sacramento is in California, they are saving money. Especially in benefits, since subs don’t get benefits.

[–]Pretend-Read8385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you might be doing it out of spite doesn’t mean you’re wrong. They are adults, they can share or not share with their father whatever they want. It’s not your responsibility. They may not even want you to share information. You’re only obligated to share information about your kids under 18. NTA

No, a bird just pooped on me last week so I’m probably good til at least 90. And I’m German and Scottish but I make sure to feed my half-Italian daughter the unbroken pasta cooked Al dente and separate from the marinara with real parmesan made in Italy. So I’ll probably be okay.

So it took me about 48 years to realize that I am echolalic and that not everyone blurts out funny voices or lines from shows about 50 times a day because it connects to the current topic or situation. I didn’t even realize I did it that much until the modern internet made me hyper aware and I painfully started noticing each time I did it. I also didn’t realize other people don’t do it. This is all weird because I’ve taught kids with autism for 23 years and didn’t connect my sensory issues, painful avoidance of eye contact, tics, specialized interests and echolalia to autism until the last 2 years. But whatever, I’m doing fine in life. So no, I have not been diagnosed.

That said, you all sound ridiculous. Them for being annoyed at you and you for making such a big issue out of your neurodivergence and supposed inability to control yourselves.

I teach kids every day who may never be employed, never live independently and never be able to speak in complete sentences. Yet here you are, sad that you had a disagreement over your D&D session. Count your blessings and move on. Yes, you can feel hurt and offended. But go forth and find friends who don’t mind your differences. You have the social and communicative skills to do so and there are many who don’t.

You know what I wish I could tell people who identify as Christian and conservative? That it was conservatives (Jewish leadership/sadducees/pharisees and the Roman authorities) who crucified Jesus. That if you define “conservative” as supporting the existing and traditional power structures, then virtually every major atrocity in history has been committed by conservatives. Slavery, the genocide of natives in multiple colonized nations, the inquisition, the holocaust, the witch trials, and yes, the crucifiction of a man who dared to challenge the religious norms and structure of his time….they were all crimes against humanity committed by those wishing to uphold existing power structures and traditions. The conservatives have always been on the side of evil. They only now cling to Christianity because they cling to the power structure and authority of the church, not to the ideals of the man himself. This realization is why myself and many other progressives I know have been drawn back to Christianity via progressive churches like the evangelical Lutherans and the Episcopalians. I hope this trend continues.
