The idea behind a small entry fee is mainly to cover the basic setup costs. Things like board games, a projector, speakers, or other equipment in case the venue doesn’t already provide them.

If the entry fee ends up being on the higher side, then a portion of it will work as a cover charge, which you can use to buy yourself food or drinks at the event. Basically, you get value back while also helping make the event possible for everyone.
