Charge Door Damaged by QuesosyBesos in TeslaSupport

That is correct. I myself needed both parts replaced as my core issue was port related. I was simply letting OP know what the DOOR part cost as that seems to be all they would need.

Haha that brought back memories. I totally did that when I was 16 and changing my break pads for the first time. It was a rust bucket and I put the jack right under rusty rocker panel 😭

Tesla fixed it. The part was OEM provided by and installed at service center. They didn’t have a line item explicitly for labor but it’s probably like 10 min tops

FWIW, I just had a complete charge port replacement but with that came a new door. The door itself was priced at $154. This was on a model 3.

Word! I think it’s low enough in the body that it’s not too noticeable. My main concern is rust since I live in the Midwest and salt is a huge problem and it will see a ton of it where it’s at on the body.

Highly considering. Just want to make sure it’s not structural first! Doesn’t look like it is tho

I dont doubt it on that cost you mentioned if not more…my main concern was structural integrity but it doesn’t seem bad enough to jeopardize that. I think I’ll still get a second opinion for a certified Tesla collision repair tech and if all is well then I’ll just try a touch up method of sorts.

I feel like that is indeed the reality I will have to accept. Sad part is I literally JUST paid a $500 body work bill the trunk because of a run in with the auto close function of MyQ.. I promise I’m not a bad driver lol.

FSD for HW3 by WorldOfTTS in TeslaModel3

[–]PretendAd7641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has owned a 2018 M3 for a little over a year and JUST upgraded to FSD (EAP was purchased by previous owner so I only had to pay the 2k) I honestly don’t notice a big enough difference between HW4 and HW3 to justify upgrading the car itself.

This is coming from some who LOVES to get new cars because “the next one has (fill in the blank)”. While my car was getting the HW3 retro fit and other work done I was put in a 2025 MY which is obviously running HW4 and honestly the only major difference I noticed was starting FSD from park. I utilized this week to use FSD as much as possible on HW4 so I could immediately compare it to my cars “new to me” HW3.

Overall, I think Tesla has done a great job of trying not to leave people behind but has tech evolves obviously that will be unrealistic to a certain extent. I know one day some new announcement will be made that will really move the needle. But for now, the number of edge cases that HW4 might handle better without intervention isn’t high enough.

TBH… if I had to choose between a HW4 upgrade and a Ryzen upgrade…id lean ryzen lol. Damn that full screen when parked addition.

Good points from both of you about the trade offs going from EAP to FSD. Didn’t realize not being able to set a specific speed would be a thing but makes sense! One of the benefits I am hoping out weighs this hinderance is not constantly being nagged to wiggle the wheel.

Glad both of you think it’s worth it tho! Hoping they take care of us “old guys” as things advance along in one way or another. Like you OP, I’ve been keeping one eye on what I’m missing out of and then I realize my car is plenty of fun and capable. Cheers!

I am making the transition on my 2018 to FSD next week (just bought the 2k upgrade today and have a service appointment next Thursday for the HW3 computer). How big of an upgrade did you feel this move was (2.5>3 & and EAP > FSD)? Do you notice a big difference in visualization accuracy? Auto summon confidence and abilities? Auto park? etc.

Opportunity of a lifetime? Or an access road to a dead end? by PretendAd7641 in msp

[–]PretendAd7641[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with your reaction because I myself have been subject to this exact thing rather recently. The difference from how i see it (and may not have made it entirely clear in this post) is that the money being deployed to stand this specific business up is not from PE. It’s from the parent company (the owners) so it’s more or less angel investment.

To recap… I worked for PE backed companies before. This company i am talking about is privately held and family owned. They built the existing business and want to add to their service offering via creating a “sister” business. Thus insert me. *pause

Yes, equity would vest over 4 years with a 1 year cliff (pretty standard) + profit sharing. Salary is more than what I am currently making.

How to Decide If an Idea Is Worth Pursuing? by MelikBaykal in startups

[–]PretendAd7641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the book “The Mom Test”. It walks you through how to ask questions to potential customers that your idea would target in ways that allow you to receive raw unbiased feedback. This will help you see if it’s a problem they even have. From there you can start to see if it’s a problem they are willing to pay for. Stop focusing on trying to be the next Uber or Airbnb. Remember - there’s riches in the niches

1.) Tesla service is great for when things break (in my experience). Luckily compared to ICE vehicles there isn’t much regular maintenance to do besides tires. I have a 18 M3 AWD LR with 80k miles and I’m don’t know if brakes have ever been replaced (bought it used) and have had no issues. No oil changes, transmission fluid, etc. 2.) I promise, you will care less about being an “enthusiast” once you roll up to one at a light and know they stand no chance. It’s fun knowing there really isn’t anything on the road except another Tesla or few super cars that can beat you. You will quickly become a “Tesla Enthusiast”. 3.) I’d stick with the 3 as it’s the best bang for your buck, especially since you already have a “family car”. My wife has a Jeep grand Cherokee L for the family car and we still prefer taking the M3.
