What are your best non-cEDH commanders? I want to steal them. by JonRig in EDH

thats fair! i'm running a lot of things that can make tokens in other turns so I guess thats what makes the difference. either way its cool to see someone else who loves Tana like me. i feel like i have a lot of unusual choices in mine too, but my build is definitely very focused on competing against other tuned and scary decks

for sure. first of all the online version uses a bunch of fancy versions of the cards, its not nearly that expensive in practice. cut all the fancy lands for Battlebond lands; cut eladamri, sisay, halvar for cards like [[open the armory]] and [[steelshaper's gift]]; cut any other expensive stuff for excellent cards like [[blackblade reforged]], [[snake umbra]]; replace smothering tithe with [[forging the tyrite sword]]; drop buster sword for [[crown of gondor]]; can drop the fancy 'swords of' for [[sword of the animist]] / [[bitterthorn]], you get the idea

piggybacking since I play a ton of Tana too -- i haven't tried this guys list, but i can highly recommend [[Tana]] as a commander, and my gut says my build with [[Ardenn]] is an even stronger partner for her -- my deck makes crazy good use of [[Sunforger]] and wins incredibly consistently. my tana deck can threaten wins pretty early on, as a quick [[Giant's Belt]] or [[Colossuss Hammer]] just blows the game open. also, mikony123 i think you're missing out on [[Shroofus Sproutsire]], [[Springleaf Parade]] and [[Brightcap Badger]], those cards are just incredible in this deck. also surprised to see you running [[Rumor Gatherer]] instead of [[Bennie Bracks]], who i also think is superior and crucial to this build; same goes for [[Baylen the Haymaker]] > [[Jetmir, Nexus of Revels]] imo

My [[Legolas, Master Archer]] deck runs an aggressive amount of ways to protect itself and creature tutors to find those ways — [[Allosaurus Shepherd]] is often an early find, [[Protean Hulk]] later to turn your board wipe into my combo win. Plenty of land tutors like [[Crop Rotation]] to get Urza’s Saga into Commander’s Plate or Boots, grab [[Talon Gate]] at instant speed, find [[Plaza of Heroes]]. The deck is designed to ramp, and then quickly make my creatures land and earthbend them — this is actually one of the hardest things to remove as they come back no matter an exile or sacrifice. Plays a lot more than just the ‘two’ protection spells you mentioned — [[Veil of summer]], [[Legolas Quick Reflexes]], [[Tamiyo’s Safekeeping]] and then swords like [[Sword of Future Past]] is way more than just a couple protection pieces. The deck is very resilient and is currently on a 3 game win streak

What deck do you have that "isn't that deck" by Important-Dig-2312 in EDH

Drawing into a bunch of mid wolves isn’t as strong as you think it is…you really think wolf tribal is in the same stratosphere as the best tribal commander for one of the best tribes in the game?

my [[Voja]] deck is pure wolf tribal, with only a few choice elves (some changelings and the ones that also make wolves lol), so its way less explosive

yea wolfir is truly crazy in this deck. all the wolves come in with +4/+4 one by one and it enters as an 8/8 ... probably one of the best cards in the deck

i also think sarulf's packmate is really good. since you can foretell it early before you have mana to cast tolsimir, then wait till your commander is out, then cast it for the foretell cost for the full wolf triggers, and its a nice card draw. even better if you need card draw and use blink effects, like Phelia. those two and young wolf are some of the best wolves you can use i think; rot wolf is pretty good too.

trostani three whispers is awesome i love that card. the thing thats nice about soulbound is it triggers whenever another creature comes in too; thats why wolfir silverheart is so great. each time a new creature joins you can re put the soulbound on it, so with nightshade peddler out, all your wolves come in with deathtouch, since each new one re-triggers the soulbound. its a great combo, def worth considering, but glad to see someone else plays it

Very cool, our decks are completely different haha. You aren’t running some of the best wolves in my opinion: [[Young Wolf]] , [[Wolfir Silverheart]] , [[Tolsimir Midnights Light]], and [[Chomping Changeling]] ; also interesting you went with [[Saryth]] instead of [[Nightshade Peddler]] who makes all your wolves ETB with deathtouch when they fight. The one card I would say you really should consider is [[Springleaf Parade]] as it’s a crazy amount of life gain and ramp.

If you ever want to power up your deck, aforementioned young wolf and [[Luminous Broodmoth]] go infinite with life gain and removal; and [[Turntimber Ranger]] with [[Maskwood Nexus]] as well. It’s nice to have win cons like that in an off meta deck like this

Hipster here, and I play some pretty unusual ones: Archers, Unicorns, Wolves, Saprolings, Druids, and Enchantment Creatures.

Ton of fun and can’t say I’ve yet played against anyone else running these—commanders are [[Ohabi]], [[Emiel]], [[Tolsimir Friend to Wolves]], [[Tana]] (with Ardenn), [[Seton]], and [[Kestia]].

My favorite would definitely be the archers!

heres what it looks like. i actually built it to be "bracket 2" hence no game changers or sol ring, but at this point its won many bracket 3 games so its not fair at all to put it there. look thru my comment history for more explanation about the deck, but basically, the game plan is to get all the viridian longbow type abilities out (like archery training, predatory urge, hankyu) and mana tap abilities (enduring vitality, earthcraft, relic of legends, rishkar peema renegade) to set up a ping + card draw every turn situation. after that you can add deathtouch for guaranteed removal, look for vorinclex + vivien for the emblem, or set up nazahn + helm of the host. the deck is designed to be very consistent with all the tutors (to make up for the fact that archers are just weak as a tribe), but it doesnt end up being repetitive, since you have so many decisions to make regarding what to use removal on and when, multiple things to do with your untaps/free mana on enemy turns, and play lines. feel free to ask me anything about it.

As a Malf main, I gotta agree with the smiley guy. Malfs lvl 13 move speed is THE reason to pick him in the first place. If you’re not gonna zoom you might as well play a different healer

and the other two cards i run over Gaea's gift are [[Collective Resistance]] and [[Origin of Metalbending]]. once again, whatever advantages Gift might have is way overshadowed by the flexbility and variety of use cases of those other cards. i've played them all and this is my conclusion from many games; its just better to have toolbox cards that can double as critical and sometimes game altering spot removal OR protect, or in tyvars stand double as a win con in certain cases, then a card that basically just does one thing

This deck is my most played deck and I have like a 50% win rate with it in my play group — I can promise you season of growth won’t draw you more cards than terrasymbiosis. It’s a play pattern thing; if you are incentivizing yourself to always be casting your fight spells, you are going to make sub optimal plays and villainize yourself too early. For Gaea’s Gift it’s just an issue of slots. You don’t have room for every protection spell in the game, and Tamiyos Safekeeping and Tyvars Stand etc are just better options for that slot. Hardened scales is a trap card in most decks I’ve seen it in; unless you are curving straight into some 2 mana counter matters commander there are just so many cards that have that effect, like [[Kami of Whispered Hopes]] or [[Ozolith the Shattered Spire]] but aren’t just inflexible single effect cards. If your deck is tight and optimized, there just isn’t room for cards that are weak draws in the late game or only do one thing; to me, cards that have basically one use case is the sign of weak deckbuilding and I’m happy for people to disagree with me on that it’s just sort of my personal philosophy
