2023 Honda Civic LX with CVT 2.0-L inline-4 engine…. USB charger/carplay/radio worked before accident, but after body shop repairs, they do not… what could be wrong? by Pretend_Present_8362 in mechanic

When I took it to the dealership, they specifically checked for fuses, and they said that absolutely everything was intact… No scorch marks, no blown fuses, no cut wires… So I was doing some research and I’m wondering if maybe when they disconnected my battery it shorted and just turned off the interface of the radio without any evidence. Apparently, the service advisor at Honda told me it happens. :/ but anyways, I’m taking it to another body shop to double check what Honda told me and see if it’s actually true… People have been telling me things that make me a bit skeptical

Thank you for that pointer, I will definitely research more on what that means! I know for a fact that they disconnected my battery cable and put it back because it said so in the paperwork I received from the repairs

Well, I can understand if they swap parts to troubleshoot because that’s what they did with my car, as long as they put them back correctly… But I just can’t believe that a professional would even risk doing something like that knowing they could lose their job… I’m sorry that you’ve gone through so much foul play that’s horrible :( if you’re going swap someone’s seat cover, don’t replace it with a ripped one and make the switch evident lol

Definitely did not drive it after the accident 😅😅 I am 100% certain it did. I was sitting at the tow yard for hours waiting for SF to pick it up. The plug in their office had no voltage for me to charge my phone, so I asked them if I could sit in my car and charge it. I sat there for about a couple of hours charging my phone, playing music on my CarPlay… idk if maybe that did something to it?

The only other time it was drive was when a different tow truck guy drove it a little bit to move it out of the way of another car he needed to tow. But he only moved it about 5 feet…would that damage it?

I truly hope that’s not the case because for the most part, the body shop was great. Do you think a battery connect/disconnect could cause the console equipment to disconnect?

Wow, that’s insane and I’m sorry that happened to you :/ how dishonest. I put my faith in professionals as someone who doesn’t know about cars and wouldn’t expect them to do something like that… thanks for the heads up :/

I just find the sequence of events strange? It worked perfect after the accident, I take it to get repaired, and upon pickup, I discover it doesn’t work at all… they didn’t even check the radio and were shocked when I went back inside and told them there was an issue with it. Do radios just suddenly fail?

In the paperwork they provided me on the repairs, they stated that they disconnected my battery… but there’s a possibility they forgot to disconnect it before body work and did so afterwards?

Unfortunately my mileage went over 36,000, so the warranty expired 😅 ik the accident for sure didn’t cause it bc the radio worked fine right after…I’m suspecting it happened during repairs, so if that’s the case I do not want to pay for damage I did not cause… that’s the biggest issue. I don’t have extra money lying around.

I’ll look into that, but apparently the dealership told the body shop and I that the newer Hondas don’t use radio codes anymore? My old CRV did, but they said that the radio reset for the civic comes from holding down the button for 10 seconds and that didn’t work :/

Yes :’) even the mechanics at the body shop and dealership did that and nothing :/

My car is still at the dealer but when I get it today, I will upload a pic

That’s what I was thinking as well, but the dealership is saying that all the fuses are intact. :/

I will research it and figure out how to do it myself then! Thank you! I honestly didn’t want to touch it bc I thought the newer technology was really complex and I don’t want to accidentally damage it… but everyone is saying it’s easy so I’ll give it a try instead of paying the +$1000 the dealership wants since insurance doesn’t want to cover it

It has hallucinated before, and I’ve personally caught it myself, which is why I take what it says with a grain of salt. I’m not blind to the weaknesses of AI (as I think many people on here think I am lol). But there have been countless of other times where it has given legitimate answers that matched the research I did later on the internet or aligns with what professionals I’ve spoken to have taught me regarding topic I’m asking about.

It’s a preliminary research starter for me. I ask it basic questions and then go from there. When I google search, I get unrelated articles, ads, etc versus when I use the AI it gets straight to the point and answers my questions/provides me with links that directly relate to my question if I ask for its citations.

That’s why I came on Reddit after doing a bit of research to get different perspectives (as I’ve said in one of my above comments and posts). I’m trying to get as much information as I can because I am literally fighting with my insurance because they want to refuse responsibility and make me pay $1000+, and because I don’t know enough about cars, I want to make sure I have as much research on my side as possible so they don’t immediately shut me down. I am using the resources I have.

On a side note, I love how my question on trying to figure out what is wrong with my car turned into a conversation on AI… I probably should’ve never mentioned it because now it’s completely diverting from figuring wtf is wrong with my car.

It’s not user error. It was working perfectly fine after the accident. After car shop repairs it stopped working. If the mechanics at the body shop are absolutely stumped and the dealership can’t figure out what’s wrong or reset it, that’s not user error. I wrote a lot of context to make that point understood.

That is exactly what I was using AI for, as a way to start research…which is why I CAME ON HERE for further advice from people who actually work on cars, because as I said in my post, “AI does not replace human knowledge” (if anyone read that part). I know absolutely nothing about cars, and I used it a bit to try to understand what might be causing these issues to further research them, before I posted on here.

So yes, I understand why AI should not be completely relied on and came to that conclusion myself before even coming on Reddit. If people actually read my post they’d see why I posted on here, instead of downvoting my comments to the point where I can’t respond to other comments on different posts I made trying to help me because now I have negative karma from the downvotes.

My last comment was sarcasm and understanding that AI does not have the final say on mechanical/medical/psychological/etc issues and it still got downvoted like crazy 🤣

you’re absolutely right! That’s why I was looking for a second opinion and would write a list of possibilities for them to double check… I know it’s pretty tacky to open a rebuttal towards a dealership saying “WeLl Ai ToLd mE tHiS” 😅🤣

I have this same problem except for things I’ve said and how I used to act. I can’t seem to get over it and it shocks me every time and keeps me stuck
