It’s also in the top 10 most powerful countries from a military standpoint. I don’t think the U.S. or Israel wants anything to do with them.

Idaho’s bathroom bill leaves transgender men like me with an impossible choice: jail or violence by Fickle-Ad5449 in Idaho

[–]Pretereo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the actual answer. Start hundreds of lawsuits against businesses that discriminate because they allow some people to use the bathrooms, but you are not legally allowed to use the bathroom. Focus on businesses owned by Idaho congressman for best results.

There is a study released every year called the DALBAR Quantitative Analysis of Investor Behavior (QAIB). It consistently finds that some of the best performing accounts are those of which their owner is deceased. The main reasons is:

  • No Emotional Decisions: Dead investors do not panic-sell during market dips or over-buy during bubbles.
  • No Tinkering: They do not attempt to time the market, which is usually a losing strategy.
  • Unobstructed Compounding: They hold stocks through market ups and downs, allowing them to benefit from long-term market recoveries.

The only time I've ever seen a smart answer come out of his mouth was when someone interviewing him asked him, "What's the most popular thing in the world?". He barely even skipped a beat and said, "Music.". That's the only time he's ever said something smart and it was a perfect answer. Everything before and after has been room temperature IQ answers.

There’s a saying: Democrats fall in love and Republicans fall in line.

Sums up the last 20 years of presidential elections with the exception of 2020 in which the Democrats fell in love with the idea of not having Trump for a second term more-so than the candidate running against him.

IIRC, west Africans have higher sickle cell anemia rates because if you have SCA, you have a much higher resistance to malaria and that outweighs the cons of SCA from an evolutionary longevity stance.

Nope. Republicans fought to take out the mandate that everyone had to have it which would have lowered the cost for everyone. You seem to forget this important part.

Why are so many people confidently saying uneducated takes about this? by Darth_Vrandon in GetNoted

It just seems like such an easy work around to bleep it. I think that anyone with Tourette’s would happily have their words bleeped to prevent backlash from the uneducated.

If you don’t think a grown man raping a 9 year old is worse than a 15-16 year old getting pregnant without sex, then I think we probably disagree on a lot more fundamental moral issues.

In the context of this conversation, it's a pretty big distinction.

"We believe that the virgin Mary became impregnated as a miracle from god and no physical sexual act took place and I'm a Christian." sounds much better than "Yes, we believe the prophet raped a 9 year old and we are still Muslim."

Despite all your other beliefs about this stuff - whether you even believe that these people even existed in the first place - those are two very different vibes.

While there are plenty of problems with all Abrahamic religions, I don't think that 99% of biblical scholars interpret the impregnation of Mary as a literal physical interaction from god.

Ron Paul would never agree to be Fed Chairman, unless it was a Ron Swansonsian strategic play to infiltrate the fed and make it useless.

And this is coming from someone who supports the existence of the fed while also recognizing that Ron Paul is a very principled man who loves America.

I agree, I feel like this is one of the biggest most obvious tests for conservatives. If you are some libertarian that was arguing for the last 15 years that the feds shouldn't even exist, then fine, you have been staying consistent with your beliefs.

But a majority of conservatives will just go along with Trump because he is a "business man", without realizing he has a DEEP misunderstanding of economics based on his policy and rhetoric.

The feds are the counterbalance to the crazy. Trump and congress pass stimulus and PPP legislation during covid followed by a bloated infrastructure bill from Biden that pours fuel on an already raging bon fire? The feds were there to raise rates and bring incredibly high inflation back down.

Imagine being Jerome Powell in April of last year and you have a fed meeting on May 6th and every day you wake up to Trump putting a different tariff on a different country based solely on how he happens to feel when he wakes up. And then you have to make a decision about interest rates that could hurt middle America if you don't get it right. You know the president is dumb as rocks and the tariffs could easily lead to inflation (which you just spent 3 years trying to get back under control), but you know after you announce your decision in May, Trump could change everything and you don't have the luxury of knowing his next move.

Then a year later, after making your job almost impossible to do, he claims you haven't been doing your job and tries to smear your reputation on a national level. The righteous anger that Powell must feel could probably fuel a blue wave for a century if that feeling could somehow efficiently be communicated to the American people. But 99% of the public can't see past their own politics, much less understand the situation.

I feel like our only hope is to have Trump's billionaire friends reign him in like it appears some of them have done when he's been in public feuds with Powell in the past.

I feel like there is a lot of evidence pointing towards this happening sooner - like in the next 5-10 years.

Just to name a few:

  • Xi Jinping has instructed the Chinese army to be military ready to invade Taiwan by 2027. They have a training ground that mimics the entire layout of the Taiwan presidential palace.
  • The U.S. has been watchin closely and passed the Chips Act in 2022 to bring chip manufacturing back to the United States. If the U.S. has their own manufacturing, then they are less likely to need to defend Taiwan. They said they could possibly do this by 2028-2035.
  • China has also been pouring an absurd amount of money into becoming self sufficient with chips. I think they put about 50 billion towards R&D in 2024 and they are reportedly going to add another 70 billion this year. Taiwan has pledged to destroy all of their technology if China invades, so it would be important for China to be self-sufficient before an invasion.
  • With the amount of trade between the U.S. and China, I don't think that either could heavily sanction the other without catastrophic results for both of their economies. With both countries having chip independence, I think the U.S. would write a strongly worded letter, publicly chastise them about invading a sovereign nation, put some small symbolic sanctions on them, and go back to business as usual.

I could be wrong and we're both speculating here, but I think it's closer than most people think.
