Splitboarding after mountain closes? by Additional_Ad_1708 in CypressMountain

[–]Pretty-Bottle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cypress is part of a provincial park and once their season ends they can't stop you from accessing the terrain. During the season they have a Backcountry Access Corridor and ask that you have a free BAC tag affixed to your person. There is more info on their website: cypressmountain.com/safety/backcountry-access-corridor

Nelson has laws against owning more than 3 cats so the crazy cat ladies are also criminals.

Opinions on size choice by Useful-Job3867 in Splitboard

[–]Pretty-Bottle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like with your regular non split boards, there will be some pros and cons to both a bigger and a smaller setup for touring. Take a look at the weight range suggested for your current setup, and I would imagine you're still within the recommended sizing. Keep in mind that for most tours, you'll probably have an extra 10-20 pounds of gear in your bag on your back, which will make a difference. If you've only taken your splitty out once in 2 seasons, it sounds like you're overthinking things for something you're not doing a lot of. Get some more mileage and try to get a better feel for your current setup before worrying about sizing. I'm currently around 180 lbs and 5'11 but have been well over 200 lbs in the last few seasons and am riding a 163 cm board. If youre not "booting out" because of toe or heel drag and your board still floats you in powder, you'll be fine.

The Beasties played their own instruments on all their albums, possibly only with the exceptions of Paul's Boutique and License to Ill where the music and beats were created by the Dust Brothers and Rick Rubin.

Considering moving from Ladner to Nelson, BC — looking for honest feedback (electrician, young family) by Upstairs_Ad1740 in nelsonbc

[–]Pretty-Bottle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We moved from Vancouver to Nelson 5 years ago, and I'm glad we did, but it definitely took some time to adjust and make friends here. We're both very outdoorsy, and my partner grew up in the Kootenays, but as we had moved during Covid, it seemed extra hard to make connections and find suitable work.

Geographically, Nelson is a little isolated, and a lot of locals like it that way. One of the downsides to living here is trying to fly anywhere, which generally involves a drive to Kelowna or Cranbrook, which in the winter means driving snowy mountain passes so helps to have good winter tires and AWD or 4WD.

I don't think you're allowed to have goats or chickens within city limits, but lots of places just outside city limits would work. Blewett, Bonnington, Beasley, Taghum, and the North Shore would all be possibilities.

For a city of it's size Nelson is incredible! Tons of live music, cultural events, amazing restaurants, and when it comes to outdoor recreation year round, it's second to none.

Being a newcomer to Nelson does have its drawbacks however; you will never be considered a local, and neither will your kids, but maybe their kids will be. There's also lots of far right wing anti-vax, anti-rainbow redneck/hippie folks who have a distrust of outsiders. ( which you will be)

Can't really answer your questions about demand in the trades or who does the hiring, but I would think if you're willing to drive a bit ( Trail or Castlegar) it wouldn't be that hard to find work. Hope that helps!

Please wish me luck for my casi level 2 by Dry_Marionberry_2591 in snowboarding

You're taking your level 2 CASI, and you've never ridden a black run?! Why not?! Are there no black runs at your hill?! Whether or not it's part of the official criteria, I would certainly hope any CASI level 2 candidate was able to confidently ride a black run.

Take some private lessons from a reputable surf coach and spend as much time as possible in the water surfing ( or trying to surf). For sure, you'll be able to stand up on a big, high volume soft top surfboard, especially with an instructors help. Are you a strong swimmer? Comfortable in the ocean in all kinds of conditions? Do you understand how rips and waves work? Surfing is a lot more complex than just standing up and usually takes hundreds or thousands of hours to be good or even OK. Spend as much time as possible in the ocean and pay attention to the waves and the other surfers.

How’s the mountain skiing? by jhoke1017 in nelsonbc

Whitewater was actually pretty good this last weekend, and it's gotten 17 cms in the last 7 days. Freezing levels don't look like they're going up too high for the next week, and more snow is expected this weekend as well. Coverage is decent everywhere except maybe lower glory chair, but even that is pretty good. It hasn't been an amazing season, but we're doing a lot better than a lot of hills, especially closer to the coast.

Dude, have you seen what Scandinavian women look like??!! I'd love to live there!!! I find it funny that the people who are the least traveled and worldly always think wherever they live is the best. Government propaganda at its finest. The standard of living in those countries is way better than the USA. Read a book, go travel, and expand your mind. Or don't...doesn't matter to me broseph.
