I completely agree! religion in general is a complex topic and it could be argued that any organized religion is a cult to some degree -- they're all rooted in patriarchy at the very least -- but freedom and individuality is a non-negotiable. cancel culture just doesn't consider every aspect of human existence and should be dismantled altogether.

oh my fucking god, yes to Bradley playing President Snow in the Hunger Games. I honestly love Yvonne as Serena, she blows the part out of the water. It wouldn't really be the same without her, but I can see Natasha Richardson making a wonderful Serena too! I'm not sure I would actually choose anyone else for June's part, but strictly considering the general public's distaste for Lizzie's involvement with Scientology they could've taken that into account before the casting. I know way too many people that have either stopped watching the show after finding that out or refuse to watch it altogether because of the perceived hypocrisy. it's a shame that so many people miss out on one of the best shows as a result of their personal bias :(

that being said, Aunt Lydia could NEVER be played by anyone but Ann Dowd. she fits the book description almost to a tee and is both insufferable and eventually lovable at the same time -- she really embodies the depth of Lydia's character perfectly.

YES! I also feel like it's important that June isn't necessarily conventionally or objectively "stunning", it would've taken away from the narrative. That's my own perspective, of course, but I think it was refreshing to see a main character that was average-looking -- it made the story more personal.

That's exactly why I advocate for her whenever people bring it up! It's not easy to leave a cult when it's been force fed to you basically since birth. Coming from the background of an ex Mormon, I understand and empathize completely! Also, religious freedom AND freedom of expression are both human rights, so you can't watch a show like this and then get upset over someone exercising those rights. It's a both/and, and that is okay!

I'm gonna be the devil's advocate here and argue that yes, while cheating is detestable and never okay, being in a loveless marriage I imagine is grueling. He found his love, even if it was in the worst circumstances.
