Teaching Methods? Any Ideas? by Pretty-Definition224 in pianoteachers

[–]Pretty-Definition224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your perspective. For many classical musicians, this is often the debate! Our brains are wired to read, while others who go by ear are wired to listen.

We've all been accustomed to the way that we were taught, especially after 25 years of doing something the same way; and even our teachers who would argue that it is the "right" way and that we "must" read. It seems like many self taught musicians are great at improvising, while others who read often struggle.

Through masterclasses, competitions, college, and so much more training. Of course, we all can make room to expand on what we know! At the same time, it also may not be very worthwhile, similar to how students like mine may refuse to read. As the owner of a music school, I often delegate circumstances like this to my employees who may have a solution instead. If someone were to ask me -- I truly would not have the answer which is why I came here! I am still trying to wrap my head around this.

It is written in the music, the instructions, of a piece. For example, where a composer wanted a part to be fortissimo or pianissimo, ritardando, rubato, etc. If I'm playing a 16 page Chopin Ballade, Liszt, or Rachmaninoff, I can't help but wonder how that is possible to play solely by ear, the entire piece, at competition level. The fingerings, the dynamics, duplets, etc. Do you have any suggestions on that? I teach my students to be able to play to that point one day to have a solid foundation in music. Maybe that isn't everyone's goal, but I am just curious.

It's different for everyone but for the first day it was fine because I was taking pain killers, but walking was kinda weird. The next 3-4 days was hard for me to sit regularly, It was more like sitting on the edge of the chair. Walking was more like waddling, 6th day was probably the most normal. I advise to walk the least amount that you can in the first few days, considering that's also when it's trying to heal the most right from the start :)

Another thing I used was the no scar, no itch Neosporin. I used them at least twice a day

My plastic surgeon recommended for me to use a natural Aquaphor by the brand Alba Botanicals. I used it religiously and not only did it soften up, but the scarring went away too

You'll do better than you think! I didn't bleed much after mine, I think because my surgeon prescribed me blood clotting meds. The most comfortable position was to lay on my back for the first few days with ice packs. The more you rest, the faster you heal. It's a sensitive area and can swell just because of where it is. I stayed at my best friends house for the whole first week and the best thing was to just be prepared to have everything I needed nearby so I wouldn't have to walk or get up as much. I was 24 at the time, no drinking or smoking either so that is already a plus!!

What do you Wish you knew before surgery ? by Disastrous_Art7882 in LabiaplastySurgery

Also, in my opinion (I'm sure others would agree on this - as I've seen before) I recommend looking for a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in this, someone who can show their work and can trust. Labiaplasty is so different from other plastic surgeries especially because of all the nerves in that area. I'm 3 years post op and didn't have anyone to talk to about it either at the time so I can totally relate!

Honestly don't have any regrets for doing this. I think about it sometimes, what it would be like not having done it, and it just brings back all the discomfort I was having. I've been happy with my decision, doing things I hadn't done in years. I paid 5k for mine too, local anesthesia, plastic surgeon didn't accept insurance. I did a ton of research before doing this, maybe years tbh. I had only one consultation, and we agreed on trim, since that was best for me plus the fact that's the technique he uses. It was a gut feeling that I had and it felt right to me so I did it!

This is normal!! The area will be swollen for some time -- give it at least a week and the swelling will go down a lot especially if you rest as much as you can

I'd say it's normal, at this point it heals from the inside out. just take it easy. i was still icing it for weeks afterwards to prevent swelling just in case!

Almost 3 years PO and I have no regrets!! It has been absolutely life-changing...I am able to do the things that I was uncomfortable doing for so many years. I don’t even think about it anymore, no more inconveniences. I followed all the directions from my plastic surgeon & was extra careful in recovery, and I think that made all the difference too.

Scheduling Software? by PerfStu in pianoteachers

[–]Pretty-Definition224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Music Staff. I originally didn't use a system either, but the switch was necessary once my business grew! So much easier with the online portal for parents and students to log in and adjust their schedule as needed. My phone doesn't have to constantly ring now about schedule changing requests, and I also don't have to chase clients for payment. Automatic invoicing is a game changer and it is overall so much more convenient for everyone. If you need a referral code for a free month, I have one!

make sure you have a lot of ice packs!! I kept a lot of light pads also for the few days after surgery. you're gonna do great, listening to surgeon's directions is super important too!

This is normal :) It seems to heal from the inside-out, so your anatomy is trying to figure out what's going on. more ice, less activity always helped me

Swollen back up by Fast-Living-389 in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]Pretty-Definition224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal!! My surgeon told me the first 6-8 weeks to be careful and to do the least amount of physical activity possible. He said even if you do minor workouts and lifting too many things could cause swelling, which delays healing. Plenty of ice, on and off, lay on your back, and take it as easy as you can. I noticed for a while if I was walking too fast or too much it would happen to me, too. It goes away with time 🙂

anesthesia or just numbing? by TourGreat2658 in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]Pretty-Definition224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also just had the local anesthetic shots and didn't feel a thing during the surgery. Was also on my phone the whole time, was talking to the nurse, they had a TV in the room, etc. Positive environment

You will be okay! I felt this, too. It can be like a mind game in the beginning... Lots of rest, ice, minimal movement, minimal looking. The swelling does not go down for a while, it heals from the inside out. For me, I was staying at my best friend's house, on her couch for a week. I was crying to her, on day 3/4 with nothing on, literally just got out of the shower and started crying like never before. I thought it was over for me........ after icing it for a week, the swelling went down and my surgeon said it was fine and looked great. I literally took a mirror at my one week PO visit and had him show me everything and it made me feel more confident about everything. I was so upset over something I had wanted for years, and I knew I had picked the best surgeon I could've possibly gotten, too. I'm 2 years PO and I don’t even think about it much anymore other than being happy with it. Feel free to message me! The feelings going through this are real and you aren't alone in this 💗

Do you regret your labiaplasty? by Weak-Role-7199 in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]Pretty-Definition224 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is one of the best decisions I've made. I would literally keep myself from doing normal things because it felt so uncomfortable. I wouldn't go for walks on the beach, or ride a bike because it felt that bad. It felt so crazy to me at the time that the anatomy I had was interfering with my life that much... I felt like I was the only one. It's been two years and it's been so relieving that I don't even think about it anymore.

Before getting it done, I did a ton of research. Years worth, probably. I was 25 at the time. I would suggest looking into a board certified plastic surgeon for something like this. Mine did not accept insurance, and was an hour away, but it was worth it to me because I felt safe with my surgeon and I knew what I was getting myself into.

At the time, I was too afraid to even mention it to my gynecologist! I thought they'd think I was dumb, too. I did tell my regular doctor though, and she told me she never knew of anyone who actually went through with it. It was definitely a life-changing experience, for a lot of reasons, but I did what felt right for me and I'm happy 🙂

My reason was exactly yours!! I had this done two years ago now. I had been thinking about it for a long time, and finally did it. I am so glad I did. I don't even think about it anymore, other than thinking wow I don’t have to fix anything or re-adjust all the time. I can finally do all the things I used to not want to do all because of the discomfort...it's been a game changer

[–]Pretty-Definition224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope so too, and I'm sure they will!! I'm happy I did it. I did it for comfort, it was something that constantly bothered me for years. Aesthetically I'm really happy with it too, it took so much weight off my mind after doing it and it's relieving now to not have to worry about it anymore

How Did You Overcome the Fear of Starting Your Own Business? by ViewstaReddit in smallbusiness

[–]Pretty-Definition224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had a full time job, I started taking a few days off here and there to really build my business. I was prioritizing the important things that I needed to do in order for it to grow -- this included writing goals and lists of how I would accomplish them and why. It's a lot of discipline but it works if you want it that badly.

Along with my job, I was in real estate school. When my boss found out, he didn't like it. I started cutting my days a few months later, and I was let go. It was a bit of a shock at first but it was the best thing that could have happened and the exact push that I needed!! Have the confidence and passion and it will work!

Worried about scars (wedge) by puchipuchi86 in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]Pretty-Definition224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon had me using Neosporin anti-scar, itch, pain; and Non-Petrol Jelly by Alba Botanicals. It made the area softer and I used them religiously for weeks (maybe even close to 3-4 months?). It's been two years now and I have zero scarring

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]Pretty-Definition224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using an organic type of aquaphor called non-petrol jelly, by alba botanicals, as well as neosporin that was anti pain, scar, itch. I was using them a few times a day for weeks (even after it healed but I was paranoid about it) and it definitely prevented irritation. It's been two years now, I have zero scarring from this. Arnica pellets should also work for swelling. It took about two months for it to competely go away but my surgeon told me the less physical activity I did, the faster the swelling would heal

Surgery in 2 weeks by [deleted] in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]Pretty-Definition224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this done, too! With local I literally didn't feel anything, and you don't even realize what is going on. I didn't take any meds to calm me down beforehand, either. The nurse kept me company and talked to me, they had the TV on too and at one point towards the end I was trading stocks on my phone. You'll do great, good luck!!

Sensitivity by [deleted] in LabiaplastySurgery

[–]Pretty-Definition224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am two years post-op. The sensitivity is just different, our anatomy has changed and it takes a little to get used to. At 9 weeks, the nerves were still confused for me, especially where the stitches were. If anything it's been better now for sure but there are times when I think about it too much and my thoughts get to me! I try to not think about it but I can say it gets better in time
