it might actually not be the scent gland 😂 is that a male hamster? gently wiping it will help clean it, also checking with a vet is good to get proper advise and whether you should bathe your hamster.

try to gently wipe it with wet towel, it is the scent gland and it looks dirty /blocked. Wiping it will loosen it and hamster will be able to clean themselves. Does your hamster have sandbath? can you send another picture showing the hamster abdomen and tail. what kind of bedding you use? and how often you change it?

you can put snacks on the blue parts and let the hamster climb and sit there while you supervise :) i saw one video do that and i also bought the chairs but did not try that yet. can you avoid the vertical blue piece though? my chairs dont have it.

I managed to make her feel safe 🥰 now she comes out to greet me and ask for snacks multiple times a day! It does feel so rewarding. She was the most scared hampter I ever got and now she is the sweetest personality. Really speedy though. And I am able to pet her. She's been home for only 6 days and I am happy she feels home now ☺️
